Does anyone know if the coating under the black undercoating was standard and what the material is?

On my '79 I can see the paint color under the coating in a few places where the coating is not as thick. I have never attempted to remove the rest of the coating though.

86-89 cars wheel wells are painted color of car. Some dealers still undercoated dars, (why I can only imagin) The only other coating would be cosmiline used to protect from rust, but mostly on cars destined for U.S. The order of application would be paint, cosmoline, and lastly undercoating.

Never seen that before. Certainly doesn't look right. If you know what Bondo smells like, then sand a small spot and see what it smells like and if it's pink.
