Default new memeber 930 project

I just found the turbo forum and I'm posting here instead of the 911 forum. Sorry if you have seen this over there already.

Just wanted to say hello to the forums and get some input on my latest project.

I used to work on this car at my shop years ago (1993-1994) and actually did some track days in it at NHIS. The owner blew the top end (1994) of one of the cylinders and pulled the engine and trans out of it. While the engine was stored for several years in a storage trailer, something happened and all the drive train was lost.

I saw the shell at an impound yard about 2 months ago and inquired, thinking it was in impound (obvious thought) and it was not. It was still owned by the same guy that took it off the road 16 years ago. Well over the past couple of months negotiations took place and I got it delivered today.

Here's a few pics here.

Way cool. Early 80's Euro?
Looks like most of it's there, minus the drive train and engine. Cleaned up pretty nice (hard to tell from the impound yard pictures if that is just dirt, or rust...hopefully the former). You've got a great project ahead of you.
What else can you share? Suspension modified? Engine enhanced? I see where she has a boost gauge in the clock position.

good eye, 81 model year. no rust at all on her. I forgot to take some under body pics. I'll do that when I get back to NH. I am on the look out for either a engine and trans or I might look for a newer wreck to do a transplant. I joined up here to weigh out some options.

Great project, fwiw I just saw an engine and trans on Pelican for sale. With nice 930s going for well less than 30k these days do you think this project can be cost effective? I know the journey is half the fun and sometimes financials have nothing to do with the go/no go decision.

I think there is some monster 600hp motec built up motor on ebay currently as well for 20ishk, if you are looking to go nuts .

I will have this car built for under $30K and the build if more than half the journey. I drove this car over 15 years ago, so it's a bit personal.

Cool sounds like a good reason to go ahead. Mine has alot of sentimental value as well as it was purchased by my father when I was 8 years old.

Look forward to seeing the process and finished product. Take pictures along the way

I misunderstood and thought the engine was still available, minus the trans.

any suggestions on recovering the dash? I am going to get into dis assembly over the next few weeks. I have a Recaro's that is just sitting around for the drivers side and I will probably recover the passenger seat and rebuild the door panels. But the dash is pretty bad.

Wow...coool story and congrats on a saving a beautiful car that may have ended up being lost, completey dismantled or worst yest crushed if not saved.

You have our support on anything you need to bring her back to her former glory.

You seem to have all the right Mechanical aptitude judging from your sweet garage and your prior experience working on the car before the motor blew. Good luck on sourcing an engine and tranny.
