Something is wrong with this car.

Look closely at the rear panel in the engine bay. Someone has butchered it with a Sawzall ...... and there are no explanations why !

I will be seeing it tomorrow morning (Wednesday) and I'll let you know .

Just going by what the owner is telling me, I bought it sight unseen if you can believe that. It won't be available for rides any time soon though. I will be fully restoring it to new condition over the next months at my shop here in PA.
Thanks

Looks like The Baron got **** blocked by Kevin!

If that car is in halfway decent shape, it has to be a good deal for a 76.

Thanks guys. I just brought her home today. Valves are really noisy, oil dripping on the exhaust, a few dings on the body, the suspension a bit skiddish, and in need of a total refresh. Good thing I have my own Porsche only body and paint shop. She will be concourse when I'm done. I will say with all her problems, this car pulled like a fighter jet and I'm not easily impressed as I've built many fast Porsches here. These early turbos are incredible, I mean I pulled 60 MPH in first and was barely redlining! I moved here ten years ago so I wouldn't know you unfortunately, but if you get up this way give me a yell on here.

Well the work begins today. Seems there are many, many differences in these 76 cars than all the other year cars. A small example of this is the rear engine compartment that the Baron thought was saw-zalled ,it turns out the 76 TurboCarrera's have this wierd notch-out there. I will be pulling the engine and working on that while I do the body/paint. The whole car over all is really pretty good. One thing good about her though is it is 100% factory and never changed in any way at all any where. Good starting point there. I probably should have bought one done as I got this one for 10k and will have another 10k in her ,not counting my labor in. If I have any questions I will ask here if that's OK. BTW, all these sites and books I have been looking at claim this car does 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. I g-tech'ed it at 4.6 avg. We have a strip here that we use for test and tunes and I ran it 7 times the highest being 5.3 till I learned a proper launch for the car. What is strange is other stock later turbos (82 euro and 88 slant) tested higher, in the 5.1 -5.5 range. I believe this 76 is all stock and at the 11.6 PSI stock boost. There is no boost gauge in this model, so a temporary one was used and at full boost it registered 11.9, so I am assuming that is a normal stock boost avg. Any thoughts?

Sorry, no input without pictures....you know the rules here! Sounds like a fine machine and probably a good buy (for someone that does their own work) once you get her all sorted out.

Your boost appears to be the stock .8 bar. I think my '87 is supposed to do 0-60 in 5.2 IIRC. Heavier car and smogged off the showroom floor vs, your '76. In it's current state mine should easily do it in 4.9 I'm confident, but have never timed it. All I know is that it makes me almost pee my pants every time I run it hard through the gears. Nothing compares to a 930...absolutely nothing is as visceral. Hope you enjoy yours as much.
