930 vs 993
Not sure if I'm starting something here but I have to ask. I am checking out a
84 turbo with many track car features but very streetable I have not driven or seen car in person yet (afraid to). How would a car like this compare to my
95-993 with some mods.?
Thanks for the input.

They are pretty different. My first p-car was a 993 with PSS9s, sways, camber plates, exhaust, etc. It ran great and handled really nicely (stock handling was crap I thought). The stock 930 is more a GT in my opinion. It is pretty quiet (though I had a Zork for a while and that was definitely not quiet; had cat bypasses and Cargraphic mufflers on my 993 and it was loud), feels heavy, the steering is quite a bit slower as it's manual. It handles pretty nicely, stops well, and, best for last, is fast. Because of the turbo lag (my car is mildly modded now so lag is much improved over stock, see sig), it is not as immediate as the 993.
Anyway, both are fun. It took me a while to get used to the less-sharp nature of the 930. It's a nice complement to a 993 but you should drive a 930 to see what you think.
Do you intend to replace the 993? Is this to be a track toy?

Stock for stock, they would be very close on hp and acceleration. However, that is where the similarities end. The 993 is very civil with assisted steering & clutch, and a good ac system. The 930 has none of those. Well, it has a marginal ac system and the 89 has a G50 with hydraulic clutch. Drive one and see what you think.

I own both models.
The 930 is what Porsche was meant to be descending from its racing legacy. It won't be comfortable, easy to drive or accept a lot of judgement errors during spirited driving. This car has potential for monster HP and is a joy to drive if you are not the comfy type.
The 993 is, as mentioned before, a huge leap in civilized driving and comfort features. It is also a joy to drive, but in a different way. The steering is so easy that if you drive it right after you drive the 930 would feel over responsive. The powerband is so uniform that makes you feel you can be fast all through any situation.
I personally have a love affair with the 930 that I think will never end, so I'm biased. I don't think you will miss anything by choosing either, other than potential for really high HP you can get by modding a Turbo.

I've owned both. Currently have a modded 993. High HP. I love the civility of the 993 and my air blows ice.
I also loved my 930's. Tough choice. You have to decide what type of driving you want to do. A modded 930 will blow your stock or chipped 993 away but may lack some creature comforts. However you can always mod the air for better cooling. Tough choice.

I had a mildly mod's 993 NA for a while before I bought my 993TT. There is no performance comparison. Now from my 993TT to my 930... I enjoy driving the 930 much more because you have to drive it. The lack of modern conveniences actually makes the 930 more fun to muscle around. The 930 is an instant classic whereas the 993TT is just now getting there...

If anybody is looking, I saw a 87 slantnose 930 concourse condition at Roslyn Porsche, they were asking 69k,a bit overpriced I suppose. I was checking out a 993TTS they had that was equally overpriced.
