Default Finally I own one! need help!

Hi guys

I'm a 28 year old from Oslo Norway, and i completed the buy of my first Porsche today.
I am now the lucky owner of a '83 930 which spent it's first twenty years in Saudi Arabia. It has done approx. 60 000 mls, and recently had a engine rebuild, and now has a K27 turbo. It's nearly in mint condition from what i can see, but there are a few questions i would like to ask:

1. previous owner says it has a stage 2 camshaft setup. What kind of cam's are we talkin about?

2. There is also a 1 bar wastegate spring installed, will this pose any problems, and does do much powerwise?

3. Previous owner has also installed silicone head gascets, as well as the seals for the "pinbolts" (norwegian), and there is some oil-sweating around these seals.

4. I bought a fabspeed exhaust, stainless headers with heat (we need that up here), twin tip muffler and a ZORK tube. Any recommendations to what i can do to the engine to run approx 350 bhp reliably?

5. I'm planning a three week trip to the nurburgring next spring, and i need to upgrade the brakes for that much trackwork. any recommendations for that?

I could probably read my way around the forum to get the knowledge i need, but i tohught i'd try asking for some help instead!

Nice car, congrats and welcome! Just add a better intercooler and you should be right around 350bhp.

That's not an original Grand Prix white, but it looks good i'll give you that.
The wheels are a two piece fuchs replica, 7x16 front and 8x16 at the rear. 225x45 & 255x40 Don't know the make, but i guess i'll find the receit for them in the huge pamflet that came with the car!

A bigger intercooler will help with that 1 bar spring and better flowing exhaust. Get a mechanical boost gauge to verify boost. The stock gauge sucks.

Your brakes will most likely work well with just better pads, like Pagid orange or blacks. Bleed the brakes with a good brake fluid. ATE blue or gold works well.

Sounds like the PO installed silicone valve cover gaskets, not head gaskets.

Nice car BTW!

Duly noted!
think i'll go for a boost gauge where the clock is. I have a ruf certified dealer nearby, and i've seen some nice lookin' boost gauges there.
Silicone valve cover gaskets sounds correct. if the headgaskets would have been shot, the car would not run good at all.
Need suggestions for a good intercooler, and can i mount a bypass valve that makes the noise comparable to the Porsche 962 racecar??
I saw a classic group c race this summer and completeliy fell in love with the snatters, bangs and whistling from those racecars. Having bought a zork tube i'm half way there...

keep the 930 calipers...They will more than suffice...get Pagid or Hawk pads..Do you have the stock intercooler...If so then you will need an upgrade

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the fun...

I think a kokeln intercooler sometime soon, the season is almost over here now, but the fabspeed exhaust is on its way.

Here's a Kokeln on the Pelican site. I'd make sure it comes with all the parts to install.

BTW, get a long neck IC that gets rif of the stock bypass valve. It's a boat anchor.

I sure wish I had known that little piece of wisdom years ago when I first started down the slipperly slope. I just can't justify spending the bucks now to convert over to a long neck, just to drop 8 pounds of useless manifold/bypass assembly.
First things first....headers, and installl my SC cams this winter. Then, perhaps get rid of the boat anchor. After that, I'm done under fear of great reprisals from my significant other half.

For newbies to the slippery slope....take note on these fine details. Although my current larger IC works like a charm, this particular upgrade is not a bad one.
