Help keeping battery alive while shipping the car

We need to ship 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo by boat which should take 3 weeks to arrive. They need to disconnect the battery which will cause the computer on board to shut down. By the time it arrives the battery will die and the computer will need to be reset. Is there a way to keep the computer working so that it would not need to be reset? Is there some type of battery keeper or something? Any advice on how to safely ship it? Our worry is that it will not start once the battery is hooked back. Thank you.

Good question. Isn't there an internal small lithium backup battery built in to the computer for just such situations? There must be - I would think - or otherwise anytime the battery was removed from the car you would lose all programming instantly. Just guessing here, as I really don't know the answer.
Is the issue with the shipper that they don't want the full lead-acid battery hooked up for fire prevention reasons? How about hooking, in it's place, a small 12 volt NiCad or similar battery pack. The computer will draw just scant milliamps and even a small battery pack would last for 3 weeks presumably.

Along with Mark's ideas...place a dry cell 12v battery - or wire two 6v's in series - in a small plastic covered box on the floorboard. Make sure it's a battery that can't leak if it falls over. Run two wires from it into a cheapo cigarette lighter adapter. Plug it in. It'll easily last long enough for the vehicle's computers to retain their memory.
