Default Breather Catch Can Installation

I know this is a 944, but I have been unable to get a response over there.

I am trying to install the breather and am not sur ehow to connect it. Do I just cut hose #19, plug the going to the seperator and then connect the other to the can?

TIA, John

Is this for a 911 Turbo?

Here's mine, but it comes from the tank to the seperator. The blue line is from the intercooler, but bent out of the way while i work on the car.

What problem are you trying to solve? Is the engine oil system a stock oil system?

It is a stock oil system other than an additional cooler. I have seen the breathers on a bunch of the 944 Cup cars and thought it would be a good additon. No specific problem, just trying to prevent one.

If you're just trying to vent the case, then I would say cut the line and clamp it on. Do you have a seperator/breather already? If not, try summit racing. That's where I got mine.

There is a difference between a separator and a breather catch can. A breather will not necessarily separate the air from the oil whereas an oil separator will. A breather catch can is normally vented to atmosphere, not back to the intake manifold.

The seperator is item #15 in the diagram. I have this breather.

Hey A930!

Did you fab the bracket or did that come with the Catch can. I need to get one form mine. When I bought the car the PO had a plastic bottle and zip ties.

Thanks and Happy New Year!!!

A930

Noticed that your can has a filter element on it. Looking at separators at Summit Racing, they all appear to be closed (with a solid lid) for use with a vacuum system. Am I missing something?

On your car, have you taken the line from the factory separator that normally goes to the air intake housing and run it into the new can, then the can is vented through the filter to atmosphere? In that case, I think your can is functioning as a catch can not a separator, right? Does venting the factory separator to atmosphere instead of the intake housing reduce it's effectiveness (assuming the factory connection draws a slight vacuum from the airflow across the connection)?

Thanks
B

I fabbed the bracket with some material laying around. It's 1/4" x 1" aluminum. 1/8" x 1" would probably work as well and be easier to bend.

I got mine from Summit Racing. Do a search for Moroso part number MOR-85465. It's a vacuum pump breather tank. The line that went from the factory seperator to the original air housing now goes to the breather. Since I went with a BMC air filter, I didn't want to just have a hose with a breather on it that might get saturated and start dripping oil. So far it seems to be working well.
