My Grandfathers's 1979 930 with 14,998k miles-Thought that I would share

Congrats from one fellow 79 blk/blk 930 owner to another...My reccomendation is to learn how to drive the car...They are a blast to drive and she does not like to be benched...You will have more $$$ problems by letting her sleep too much...then letting her stretch her legs at a minimum of 3-5k miles a year...
I have owned mine for 3 years(14K+ miles) and not a single problem other than the driver(me) not knowing what her true abilities are...Ohh and do not overfill her with Oil...Made that mistake....
Also pending your location you may want to replace the trombone oil cooler with an upgrade...Otherwise you do not need a thing...Others may say different...
Beautiful looking car and she will provide lots and lots of fun...especially when she spools up and she kicks in....I highly reccomend you have her point in a straight direction...or else...LOL
Congrats again....

LP500.
For your records Jess Jones Porsche Audi is long since gone. It is now a PC Richards appliance store. I used to buy parts for my Porsche from them back in the 90's. I remember there being a very pricey 930 blk/blk for sale in their showroom back in 1980 I wonder if this is the same car. I always used to go in and drool.
BTW is your Countach a NJ car also. I knew of a car that looked identical to this and it was a carb car back in the 80's. IIRC the owner had the wheels plated in gold. Interior is the same and if it was the same car I had a chance to drive it. The owner had the car imported and never really drove it. It would be a small world if it was the same car.
BTW are you removing the rear wing. I know Joe Nastasi who imported all of these cars and he tried to make the rear wing work for the factory but said it was a total drag (pun intended) He owns the last Countach brought into the US which only has 700 miles on it and he feels it will never really be worth any where as much as his Miura. So maybe a half mill one day I doubt a million.

LP500,
Great cars! Just curious, you down in SD? The shots of the Lambo looks like a place I know of that services Lambos and Ferarris in Mira Mesa. Mind Over Motorsports is (was) right next door and also a place my former gf used to get her BMW serviced (I handled all the other servicing she needed ) Used to see tons of interesting cars there.

Thanks to all for all the feed-back...The Countach is coming along nicely. I am getting it ready for some driving in the spring and the new ORIGINAL rims should be on the car by then. As for the 930, one of my family members was going through some old files of my Grandfather's and found a limited edition Road and Track prints of the 1976 911 Turbo, another cool piece or Turbo history that must have inspired him to buy the car!

I agree 100% with Clarkson!
These are pics of my fathers 87 5000s taken in the late 90's. I think the 930 and Countach and probably 2 of the best looking cars ever built! Other than the looks and the absolutely incredible sound of that V12 with and different exhaust ( I cant remember the name, maybe Ansa) thats all the Countach has going for it. The Countach was very difficult to drive for several reasons, first the foot well where the clutch, brake and gas pedals are located are so small you have to be a child to fit your feet there, the seats are very narrow, its very small inside, you cant see behind you and the windows only roll down 3 inches!. Im 6'2". Everyone is trying to look at the car wherever you go makes it dangerous to drive. No one is paying attention to where they are going.
He bought the car with about 5kmi on it paid $95k + - around 1994-95. The acceleration was average, at the time I had a 5.0 Mustang with about 280-300hp and could easily beat him to about 130mph, after that he would walk away. We took them to Limerock one year for a PDA event and no way could he even come close to me. My car wasnt stock, of course but it was also about $10K. that was the fun part of ownership. Back then (if I remember correctly) spark plugs were about $50 each!, cap and rotor about $4-500, wires about $4-500, and I bought the very first set of K&N air filters at about $90 each. I did all the work myself so no labor charge. Then came the clutch replcement at about 8kmi, he bought one from Al Burtoni and I think with installation was about $12-13K!!! THATS INSANE!!
A few years into ownership, my brother bought a GORGEOUS 79 930 from the Dupont Registry, White with Saddle interior 50kmi I think about $25k around 1997 or so. My father told my brother that was his when he sells it. He always loved Porsche, but always wanted a Countach. Who didnt? The cost of ownership was just crazy, the car was not that reliable, and not fast. My brother kept the Porsche for a few years and eventually sold it to my father after he sold the Countach. It was fun to drive and see everyone stare, listen to that engine but thats really about all. You couldnt really enjoy it thinking will it break down, how much is the next service going to cost etc. But he had one....
The Porsche was in the family for about 15 years AND NEVER, NEVER, NEVER broke down once!! NEVER failed to start and perform to 100% on any given day. Reliability a Toyota couldnt even match!! 1 clutch, regular oil changes and tune ups, a battery or two and thats all!
OH, did I mention that since the Countach was hand built, IT LOOKED HAND BUILT! All the body panel gaps were filled in with silicone sealant, nothing lined up right, and IMO poor materials. I guess that could be since it was a 1987, but not that Porsche!
If I had a collection of exotic cars I would definately want one anyway!
