Oil sump plate

Oil sump plate
Hmm, I saw pictures from 930 engines with oil sump plate.
My `87 engine do not have this plate.
I have checked engine number when I bought the car,
it is the number recorded at Porsche, aka matching numbers.
Was there a change over the years?

Anybody know why they changed it?
Was it to save money on production cost or is the case stronger without it?
I wish my '87 had that sump plate. You can even get nice billet aluminum ones if you want.
It would be nice to be able to see in there a little bit and maybe be able to stick my smallest finger in around the edge of the oil pump screen and feel around for grit, sludge, or any other surprises.
