i would say 356 speedster, 930, 959, 928, 935, 965, 993 turbo. the 911 in general. no particular order but I know at least one of these cars gets brought up when I talk porsches with ppl outside of our addiction.

I would say the Porsche 911 based race cars ... in the 70's and early 80's the publicity the 911/rs/rsr and 935 race cars got for its dominance got a lot of people interested in owning a Porsche because as 911 based cars they directly related to the street car. I know when the George Dyer RSR and 935 would sit at Nuefeld Porsche Audi in my home town in the late 70's you started to see 911's spring up everywhere in Nor Cal. The RSR and K3's really turned a lot of people on and everyone wanted a 911. Just look at the production explosion during that period of time.

But the other side is... all Porsche's are either famous , infamous or both ...

956/962! Rothmans factory cars dominating Le Mans or Holbert's Lowenbrau car crushing everybody back in the IMSA GTP days. I guess these are the cars I watched growing up that got me hooked on cars and motorsports.
