Everyone who drives Porsche has to know James Dean. I can imagine some people buying a P-car and trying to identify themself with James Dean; I believe many of the glamorous things which characterized Dean live on in the Porsche brand.

I think you need to break it down to either production cars or factory racers. There is a list a mile long of factory racers that are legendary and hard to pick which is most significant. As far as production cars there are a handful of cars with history and others that are production milestones.

Stock 3.6 Turbo as seen in the pictures Mike and I posted. This is the actual car from the movie. It was not a turbo S. They did exaggerate the info a little in the movie

Most people never even heard of the Gmund even though it was Porsche's first factory race car.

My vote for the most famous and best looking Porsche is the 917K.

Street car catagory, the 930.

..and that one could really be the 72 911S.
I say the 930 though because the curves are just so incredibly sexy. . .
