can anyone tell me of their experiences w/ these tires? it seems in a 245-45-16 tire size...we have no options!
is this a quality tire?
is it quiet?
are they round or is the quality and ability to balance in question?
I have never heard of these tires so i am concerned...can anyone get me comfy?
Thank you,
pcb

I have those tires and was prepared to be impressed by them but so far they are only okay.
First of all, I get some wheelspin, which is not surprising because I got some before on bridgestone.
Secondly, in a comparison test a while back, hankook was not very good in braking, and in the real world I tend to agree. It was good in cornering grip, and I agree with that.
I guess I want a lot out of my tire, and next time will try the TOYO which is very soft and has more grip, at least according to my mechanic friend. It will only last half as long however.
Hankook is a good value, lightweight tire, but you notice the braking isn't very crisp and the tire is not as sticky as I had hoped to tame the back end of the 930 on the gas.
Not saying the other tire brands are any better-except maybe TOYO, which I will try next for more maximum performance. And half the tread life.
I originally picked hankook because they seemed a step up on most of the other tires in overall value and performance.

they are avail in the proper sizes. this is too bad...no support for our sizes anymore.

Hey Pete-
The PO put some Fusion ZR-i's on mine just before I got it. I nearly choked when I read the sidewall, I kept looking around the tire "Fusion WHAT? Toyo? Bridgestone? Fusion FUSION? ARGH!". Heh heh.
His defense was that "but they're Z-rated" (b/c the ZR-i says so apparently in his mind - they're not - they're W!), but more importantly that was what he said came highly recommended from Tire Rack.
Right size and cheap. If I were to sum them up I'd say they sound similar to what ddd describes above. I get 'some' wheelspin - but not much. Braking, my fronts lock up with little to no provocation - dunno if that's due to these or not... what say the rest of you do yours? Grip has been MUCH better than expected, as has turn in response. They flatspot overnight but so has every tire I've ever had on my other junk heh heh. I think they're owned by like Sumitomo or some other Korean mfg.
Don't underestimate the Korean tires coming on the market in recent years. I LOVED my Kumho MX's on my former //S6 - like pencil erasers and cheap. Just gotta get by the snobbery factor - admittedly it does seem kinda sorta WRONG to have Fusions or Hanooks on a Porsche - d'oh.
HTH, good luck, report back.

I have numerous friends running the HTRZ-II's on their Audi //S's and MB 500E's, etc. All seem to like them for what they are, for whatever that's worth.
Hey a fellow //S owner - not many of us here certainly! Still on your hunt? A local bud might be selling his Guards '79 - it's nothing to look at, but the motor build is decent (Koklen IC, twinplug, K29, etc.) and it goes like a bat outta hades! Dunno further detail but could find out...

1) Which Hankooks are you referring to? I've heard nothing but good things about the Ventus RS-2. They weren't available when I needed tires, so I wasn't able to try them out, myself.
2) Fuzion is a subsidiary of Bridgestone.
3) Stock sizing on the '86-'89 930 was 205/50/16 and 245/45/16, IIRC.
4) I've got Falkens on my car (stock '87 sizing) right now. ST112. That's what was in stock when I purchased them. Odd that that sizing doesn't seem to be available anymore. OK tires. I have no real complaints for the canyon carving I mostly do. They wear a little quickly, though. I've only got about 10K miles on the rears and the wear bars are approaching. In the past, there was also our sizing available in the Falken FK451/452 and perhaps the Azeni RT615 lines. Again, a quick check of Discount Tire Direct doesn't show those models in our stock sizing (though I know they've had them before).

$140 for rears and $120 for a pair of fronts it seems almost criminal, i would rather put a higher end tire if i had options.
I have located a 76 turbo that is mechanically sound but need some love in the interior dept. The price however is right, no wrecks, and one owner 47 K miles.
I would like the 78 and up for the intercooler, 3.3, brakes but i am under the impression the 76 and 77 are becoming very desireable. I shoudl be closing the deal in about 2 weeks.

Goodyear Eagles F1's came out very good overall on a test against other performance tyres. I saw the video on www.youtube.com

I have have the Hancook Ventus RS2, they are very good and are wearing well so far (4K). I drive very hard and they are much better than my old Dunlop SP8000s.
I have 245/45/16s and 225/50/16s on my car by the way.

I just put on a set of the Potenza's...but haven't had a chance to drive it to see how they feel and act. Your options for the 245/45/16's are limited to only about three or four manufacturers. Michelin quit making the 245/45's about four years ago. I've got a great set of Michelins for the fronts, but couldn't match the rears with new Michelins, so I had to change out the whole set.

hankook rs2s are very good tires. I used a set for a season of autocross on my suby. I prefer Bridgestone re01rs and falken azenis for autocross but by the hankooks are great.........kindof the worst of the best so to speak.......
