Default 930 owners and Imagineauto

After my "best bang for the buck" thread, I stopped at the Imagineauto website and began looking around. I really like a couple (stage 1 & 2) of the "packages" that they sell for us 930 owners. Who here has had their 930 there and could you please tell me your experiences. If need be you can PM me. Thanks.

Had my 76 there a couple of years ago. They found some seriously botched things done by an outfit in Arizona that among other things was to paint the inside of the sump plate, used JBweld to patch an oil leak that never stopped leaking etc. When Imagine put the engine back together after sorting through all the previous screwups there was still a sizeable oil leak. Long story short they had to find another case. It took almost a year but it was worth it. I already had 3.2 pistons sc cams headers bla bla bla. Went to the K-27HFS with a fabspeed muffler. Serious difference. Stephan is a good guy to work with. But is one of those while we're in there kind of things. You need to hash that out before you commit. It is real easy to add this, that and whatever to a point of diminishing returns. You'll more than likely never get out of it what you put in that but you already know that if you've read much here. Good luck.

Never in a business relationship with Imagine Auto but I have always known Stephen to have an outstanding reputation in a world (Porsche tuners) where the opposite is the norm. Don't think you can go wrong with IA.

I just had a bunch of parts done by them for my recent 500 HP rebuild, and they were phenomenal.

so i assume you guys just have it shipped there and then the rest is in their hands huh? Dont you guys get worried you're not there with the car when they fix? maybe its just me since i'm just used to mechanics screwing people over. honest people are hard to find...i've heard mt share of stories and it just freaks me out. i assume they are 100% trustworthy and that is how they built their rep?

I just purchased Stephen's 1976 911s sight-un-seen and The car is fantastic. I have also purchases several mods from Imagineauto and Have always had a pleasent experence. He has a 1987 cab for sale for the price of the motor & the G50 tranny. Just ran into the add on the classifieds http://www.imagineauto.com/porscheph...mballa_930.htm

I'm very familiar with Imagineauto from these forums (and they seem to have a good rep)but are there any other reputable shops around? Keep in mind... that you would have to feel comfortable shipping your car off, and waiting to get it back, and in perfect working order.

I've been in contact with Stephen discussing options etc, and I was planning on having him do my build before I stumbled upon my current motor. He's a great guy and knows these cars to no end. Big thumbs up for Imagine Auto.

Rennlist is a great resource for technical information, but not so great with respect to questions regarding the reputations of the site sponsors. Like this thread, many will post their good experiences with site sponsors, but very few will dare to post anything negative about a site sponsor. For those that do post anything less than positive, censorship and forum bans are in order. I'm not complaining, I'm just making a point for those people that are trying to make informed decisions.

We are just fish in a fish bowl ... it's the guys with the hooks that you have to watch out for.

1985ruf,

I'm with you. I am not comfortable with shipping off the car and hoping for the best upon its arrival back to me.

I'd contact him directly and explain your concerns. He might be able to provide you with previous client references to help you feel more comfortable.

He also might also have some sort of process to deal with this concern already in place...
