Came across this in my search for bits, looks like a good deal if they are in good condition http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsc...spagenameZWDVW

How can that look like a good deal? There aren't any specifications of what the pistons and cylinders measure out to be. There isn't pictures of the skirts, and you don't know if the wrist pins are tight in the wrist pin bore. In short, unless a machine shop has measured these and the data is available, consider looking elsewhere.

Sorry Geoffrey, i just came across them and thought he might be interested in checking them out, i'm sure he'd want to qualify whether they are in good shape before he purchased them.
If they are in good shape and everything checks out, are they a good deal?
I have no idea who the seller is, i'm in the UK for starters, just trying to help out

No problem, I just don't like to see people blindly buy things without being educated.

Hey JBL, I definately appreciate the inforation you provided. However, if these are stock P/C I wouldn't be interested.

Currently, I have RUF 3.4L P/C's and am interested in replacing with comparable components.

I appreciate any and all feedback. As I too am just learning about these cars...

Thanks,

Jitters

Jitters,
To help you out a little if you pm me I can get you the name an number to the previous owner of the car and let him know you are calling. He can give you some more details about the engine.

Geoffrey, what do you think of the JE's being put in the Nickies' cylinders? Still not optimum?

Just to be clear, I would not use a JE piston in any application, there are far better pistons out there. I have no experience with the Nickies cylinders, however, I am very close to trying a pair myself. From everything I have read and heard, Charles has a good track record and the design of his cylinders makes sense. They are Billet and made from I think 2618 Billet.

FWIW for 20+ years on several racecars I only ever run Mahle P&C with great results.

Cant speak for the others since I have not tried.

Okay Gents,

I've got a question and please go easy on me...Since only 2 of the pistons and barrels are bad, is it necessary to replace the others that are still good?

Be nice please...

What caused them to go bad?

Probably my dumb VSS...After I had the new turbo installed, I was messing around with the boost controller. Couldn't leave well enough alone...I believe I adjusted it to high, thus the reason for the broken rings and the bad pistons...I heard what apparently, was what I believe is detonation, so I immediately adjusted the boost all the way down...but by then, I'm sure the damage had already been done...Shortly after that is when I noticed the blow-by...

I would replace them all. The extra money for replacing the pistons and cylinders is much cheaper than having to tear the engine down again.
