Default Cost of CD ignition box

Anyone know what would be a fair price for a used 930 CD ignition box? Need to start looking for one.
Thanks,
Drew

I have a spare one, new and never used, still in the Porsche/Bosch box. They are bloody expensive too, i got stranded in Le Mans one year and couldn't get hold of one for a week, so i bought two to make sure it never happened again, i've never had use for it. For the right money i'd let it go, although the exchange rate might make it uneconomical for you guys over the pond? How much are they new in the states?

I believe there are places that rebuild them out there also. You could always go with an MSD 6AL w/Blaster coil too.

MSD 6AL for me. It has the Soft Touch Rev Control, which the 6A doesn't.

MSD 6AL also...with rev limiters included in the package....nice setup. Also had my Bosch unit rebuilt by Zims...they rebuild for $300 which is a lot cheaper than paying the $800 + for a new one.

I had a 6Al in my RS clone and my 944 S2 and both failed after only a short life. You guys haven't had problems with them. Th permatune are very sensitive too and can fail but I found were better all around power than the 6AL.

I have not had problems with MSD's but I will never use a Permatune again. They have not been reliable since the seventies and nothing has changed as far as I am concerned.

Stephen: You are the first person I've heard who has had enough problems with the MSD that you use another product. What do you find that most commonly causes the failures? You routinely build high performance systems....so I'd be interested in hearing what it is that seems to be a common failure of the MSD's.

In your experience, how well do the rebuilt Bosche CDI units hold up?

Well you are hanging out in the wrong crowds. Many including, god rest his soul, Chet have had many issues. I do not know what causes the issues but suspect the heat and the environment of a 911 engine bay to be suspect. The typical temperature is considerably hotter in the bay of a 911/930. I have tried since the late 80s to run that junk and it has always failed in an aggressive environment. Premature is well, not for everyone. The rebuild units are golden. I personally use M&W direct replacement CDI setup. Not cheap, but good. i also use these in my EFI conversions.
