Default Speedline wheels

I am building a set of custom sized Speedline wheels for a 930 Turbo and thought everyone on this forum might enjoy the pictures.

wheels are 9.25" x 18 fronts and 11.25" x 18 rears.

WOW- what tire are you planning on running? Will those rears fit under without rubbing the inners- if so that is alot of traction. too cool- Mike

Rears tire size has not been determined - 305 possibly up to 335 just depending. jim

I've got 315x30x18's on mine with a little room to spare on the inside edge. The oil lines are still over an inch away from the tire.

I think you could put a 12" wide rim with 335's, maybe even 345's on the back.
I know 11.5" wide rims fit on the back fine.
If you've had the scarey experience of the back breaking loose when you don't want it to... you'll want all the traction you can get back there.

Hey Jim, mind sharing the exact wheel specs you're getting?

So Jim...

The wheels you have posted are being set-up for a 930.. what year... and I assume from the depth of the lip that this will eliminate the spacers used?

How many hole wheel half is that?

I have a set of 18" Kenesis super cups, belive them to be 9 & 10s.. I'm looking to get the deeper outer lip as you have pictured. Is this something you can help me with and what info on my wheels will you need?

Can you tell I'm interested?

Thanks,

Paul

I have 996TT wheels on my '87 930.
The rears are 18x11" with a 45mm offset, and fronts are 18x8" with 50mm offset.
I have 1" hubcentric adaptors on top of 21mm Porsche spacers on the rear, and 1.5" inch adaptors on the front hubs which never had front spacers on an '87.
I like the looks and they work great.

I've posted this pic before but this is how they look...

edit: sorry, just realized you meant the Jim that started the thread.

Guys there a common size wheel hoops used for Speedline 3.6 Turbo and Speedline 993 RS wheels. 8" inner hoop for the rear, 6.5" inner hoop for the front. Most the wheels (almost all that I have seen) use these standard sizes and then use either a 1.75" outer rear hoop with a 1.25" outer front hoop. So lets play a game -- what can I build. I located some outer rim halves from some Speedline wheels that were 13" wide. I know this because the markings on the face of the rim tell me so. They measure 6" wide and were probably used on a Viper or something like that. So working backwards I then had made a 5.25" inner rear hoop that gives the wheel close to standard porsche backspacing we all love to talk about somewhere between 4 7/8 and 5 1/4" you guys all know this. So I end up with 11.25" wheel. Now I could actually make a 11.5 wheel by using the aluminum crush ring and rubber o ring that Speedline traditionally seals its wheel parts with, but wanted to be sure it would fit.
I had another set that had 25mm ET most 964/993 use 56 - 61 ET so the outer rim was 2.75" with a 7" inner hoop -- hope you guys are following this. That rim half was used with the standard 6.5" front and now there is a 9.25" wide front wheel.

When I rebuild a set I strip all the finish off the bolts, get them replated (usually in nickel) get new nuts paint the inner hoops polish the outer rims, paint the centers and make wheels that Speedline did not make.

BTW Jim...do you have any idea what the inner and outer barrel sizes were for the RSR speedlines? I'd like to know what centers they used for the rears too if anyone knows...though it is kinda too late since I sold these outers to Jim.

Thanks Ryan, at least now those extra wide rims that you could not use will go to good use. S ducts are still in progress, trying a different method now. Jim

I have access to some N/A 964 trailing arms now...not sure how much is involved with the swap. Probably would have been a pipe dream as slow as things are going. Plus there is a 61 Vette and a 56 Chevy that need some TLC when the P-Car is done.

JFairman,
No worries mate! I'm trying to gather as much data as possible to make a decision about what I might do in the near future about my stock Fuchs. I'd like to do something kind of keeping in line with the mid-80's vintage that my 930 is. I'd like to fill the wheel wells more and have wider rear rubber, but I'm not real easy about adding spacers and etc. If I can specify the right offsets I'm hoping to avoid all of that. I'm also torn between 17" and 18." I'm wondering about the loads the 18s would put on my old torsion bar suspension, and is the 18 too much in regards to keeping them somewhat vintage looking. Something along the line of the old BBS modulars or some such.

I also have a set of Speedline wheels by SAC( Speedline America Corp). They are 7 and 9.5 as I remember, but what is interesting is they require no spacers to run on normal SCs or Carreras. They are 17" and could have the rear outer rims moved to the front and have new outer rims made to make wide Turbo width wheels. Not sure if there is any interest for this set of wheels. Here are some pictures, but remember these have not been restored. Jim
