Nice list. I agree with almost all of those cars being included for one reason or another. I wouldn't have put the Audi A4 and S4 in though.

Surely the Lancia Integrale should have made that list, i'd also have the Maserati 3200GT in there way before a 1.8ltr Audi A4. Also think they were being a bit OTT about the lag, OK it's got lag but is it really as bad as they make out? (I can't remember what the original 3LDZ turbo was like to be honest)

Great read, thanks for posting the page Jim I don't get that rag anymore. Bud of mine'd told me about it, reading it was better of course - gave me goosebumps for some reason.
Wow, Audi takes 3 of the 10 spots? Heh, what'd they sponsor the story??? The A4 1.8t? Sure it's significance in bringing the technology to an entire line of VAG cars is great but to make the 10-Best List??? The SportQ, sure, hugely significant, revolutionized Rally.
Mega, I think the "S4" they include is the UrS4, not the later biturbo. That was a pretty significant car (OK obviously I'm jaded having had a UrS6 heh heh) - turbocharged 9.3:1 compression through Torsen center diff and lockable rear diff in an uber 5 passenger sedan bathed in Nappa leather? One of the original Q-Ships. They're terrific machines, hugely capable and infinitely rewarding - not to mention endlessly tunable with minimal effort / factory parts. I've got a number of bud's pushing 30psi out to +400WHP (that's 4 wheels, to boot)... on stock internals. I do miss mine, 6spd, 993tt brakes, bolt on goodness heh heh.
Funny I've either hammered or sat in just about all of those (hello Cosworth RS! Schwing!). Damn, gonna have to make point of finding me some Lotus time. And I'm a bit ashamed to not have even heard of the Carlton - google time to rid me ignorance!!!
Heh heh... 2 of the 10 (mine and me buds'):

Chap who lives nearly opposite me has a Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 2WD. I've been in it when it was owned by the previous owner and was tuned up. It went like hell, a real tyre shredder.
The new owner that lives opposite had teeth break off the crown wheel after only owning it a week
