Default Tire question....

I tried to find this using search, truly.

Can you fit 265 in the rear of a stock 930 with 9" fuchs? I'd imagine 255 would fit fine (they did on my 9" wide wheels on my 944), but the tires I'm looking at come in 225 and 265.

Also, what is the max width you can safely (without rubbing) go with up front?

Thanks,
Matt

Well, I have 285's on the rear of my 930. I also had 265's on a 9" rear rim on my 3.2 carrera sport coupe, they looked like a good fit, not overtyred at all.

What width rim do you have 285s on? It doesn't rub? Is it even close? My suspension is stock, so there might be a bit more squat under accelleration than someone with a stiffer setup. I think the fattest I should/need to go really though is 265. I have the stock fuchs setup, 16x7 and 16x9. I'd like to go 235 up front and 265 in the rear.

Thanks!

i would think 265 would be fine on a 9 incher. I know 245 works great on an 8 even if 8.5 is prefered....

My car has 10" rears with the 285's. I have 8.5" up front with 225's they are very tight/stretched on that width rim.

I know some people run 315's on the rear but I think oil lines need to be moved as well as a stiffer setup.

No rubbing at all with my 285's. I think my suspension is stock but my car is lighter than stock which should help to stiffen.

I have 315 x 30 on 18x11" 996TT wheels on the rear and they fit fine. No rubbing at all and there is some room to spare on the inner side.
There's about 2" total spacer on the rear to make those positive offset wheels fit.
Front 996TT wheels are 18x8" and 225 or 235 x40 will fit there with a 1.5" hubcentric adapter, or spacer with longer studs.

This is the only pic I have of them right now...
The '78 E21 BMW with euro 3.5 liter engine parked in front hasn't been getting much attention since I got the 930 a year and a half ago..

Currently there are Dunlop, 225 and 245 front and rear respectively. I would like to go with something wider in the back. I had 255 on the rear of my 944 and that only had 236hp (968 engine) and I could still break those loose with relative ease. Would like to try 265 but I only have the 9s. Good info here though, thanks for the responses.

I'd like to try to fit yokos all the way around. I have been very pleased with Yokos on my 944 and as well on my Porsche Support Vehicle, 2003 Honda Pilot.

Only problem is, yoko doesn't make a tire of the size I will need...

I have 285/35-17 Hoosiers on 9x17" Kinesis with 9mm offset on my N/A Carrera race car that has RUF 10" rear flares and 3/4" spacers. Some other tire OEMs don't recommend as narrow as 9" rims on this width tire. My 930 has RUF 10" rims with 285 Michelins and it's an easy fit. Was able to over power 275 width tires with wheel spin under boost so needed more width. When new mods are finished we'll see if 285's will handle the power or if I have to go to 315's ... and then I'll want to go to 11" rims for the best fitment.
