I have a brand new Tial 46mm that I recently bought but didn't install. It has a .8 bar spring.

I don't want to hijack the thread so if anybody wants to email me about it, they can.

the knock off I got was built indentical to a tial inside and out with high quality materials works perfectly with a tial spring in it and only cost me $80.00 so if you want to pay an extra $420.00 for a tial logo on the top go ahead. My question is how Tial can get away with such a huge mark up.

Funny, I just had my OE WG replaced this a.m. on way in to work. My '87 was frozen solid, no amount of psi nor wailing on the piston would budge it. Local wrench installed a 15k used OE unit for $325, $540 total. Sound right?

I just got the car a few weeks ago, feels sooooooooo much better to have it drive the way it's supposed to. He told me the Tial was ~ $800 and then had to fab the install some, $1200 or so total. Pass, for now. Again, I'm a noob here, appreciate any insight.

Except for the highway robbery of $215 for the labor. Takes me all of maybe 30 minutes to remove/install a WG. 8 little nuts, wham-bam you're done. Oh well, I guess people...even mechanics...have to make a living.

Thanks - I was thinking the same. There's tax included in there, of course, but it was still 2 hours. Included in that was time spent on bench trying to "free" my stuck unit, then road testing with me driving to dial in the MBC. It was off / on pretty quickly otherwise.

If I knew for sure the WG was frozen I'd have just picked up the used unit and R&R'd it mesself, sure. But I'm a noob to the car and still feeling things out, and they'd done a WG diaphragm within the past year so I brought it back to them hoping there was some correlation to that or their more recent MBC install with the PO.

Ah well, live and learn.

I got one of these with the polished stainless steel dump pipe for $79 plus $8 and change for shipping.
They sent a blue spring and a yellow spring with it too.
It is a copy of the Tial and will take the Tial springs also.
The square stainless piece with 4 holes in the picture is the valve seat. It fits perfectly and the valve has no sideplay and moves smoothly.

I am very impressed with the quality. The diaphram alone for the porsche wastegate is around $125.
I just installed a new K27 HFS a week ago and I'm still staying out of boost till I have around 250 miles on it. They say you should break in the HFS slowly so it's thrust bearing will be at it's best farther down the road.

So I can't say how good this wastegate really is yet, but I have to say I'm very impressed with the quality of constuction and all the hardware that came with it for the price.
Alot of the suby guys use ss autochrome stuff with good results. They sell a large intercooler for wrx/sti for around 300!. Sometimes the fitment isent perfect but many enthusiest have had good luck with their wares. Is the WG a direct bolt up for OEM?

I have a spare 'Turbosmart wastegate' which is correct fit for the 930. I installed it on my 965 as a temporary mod for around 500 miles but it was the wrong angle for my second tail pipe. Cost £500 with the adapter. I'll sell it for a fair price, PM me if interested.
