Depends on what you mean by cheap, I was just over in China to visit some suppliers and decided to take a look into some of the so called cheap chinese stuff and I was actually impressed. I did have the supplier provide me 2 samples of a 46mm wastegae that I plan on testing out at the end of the year, interesting thing about the sample that I have gotten is that is an adjustable wastgate 
. I did some quality inspection on the material and was surprised to see that they were using reiforced Nomex for the diaphram, stainless steel springs and nickle based alloy for the valves.
So I gues to answer your question, yes there are cheap knock-off products out there and there are also some that are copied 1-to-1 using good materials.

yeah could be interested in these copies aswell....sometimes there are companies who can still manufacture stuff like this and still make a profit with using the same quality parts/materials,,only difference is though there not ripping you off the same!!..be interesting to see how these perform,,this could be similar to the headers we see out there for about a quarter the price!!,,it seems there is some fitment issues with these but B&B systems have the same fitment issues but for 3 or 4 times higher the price!!..dont get me wrong sometimes you do get what you pay for,, though sometimes they well over inflate the price just because its for a "porsche"

I got one of these with the polished stainless steel dump pipe for $79 plus $8 and change for shipping.
They sent a blue spring and a yellow spring with it too.
It is a copy of the Tial and will take the Tial springs also.
The square stainless piece with 4 holes in the picture is the valve seat. It fits perfectly and the valve has no sideplay and moves smoothly.
I am very impressed with the quality. The diaphram alone for the porsche wastegate is around $125.
I just installed a new K27 HFS a week ago and I'm still staying out of boost till I have around 250 miles on it. They say you should break in the HFS slowly so it's thrust bearing will be at it's best farther down the road.
So I can't say how good this wastegate really is yet, but I have to say I'm very impressed with the quality of constuction and all the hardware that came with it for the price.

I am just suprised that there are no other decent wastegate manufacturers. I do not want to put cheap parts on my car. I have not done so yet and I do not plan to start now. If Tial is the way to go then I will just stick with the stock unit until I can afford the Tial

Now, that intrigues me. Hmmm....one would think that it would be relatively easy to modify a stock Tial with an external adjusment to change the spring tension. When I have nothing better to do this winter, other than lamenting not being able to drive, I'll take a look at the possibillity.

That does sound very interesting keep me posted on how it works out.

Might be interesting to try, nonetheless. Just go straight through the existing threaded vent hole with a hollow threaded bolt attached to a thin shim inside the housing. Might allow for some "fine tuning", but I wouldn't expect it to take the place of the correct spring for larger desired changes.

I think the biggest issue with shimming and adjusting wastegates is that you have no clue what the results are until you run the car. Not only that but the spring in a wastegate is designed for a specific amout of travel, by shimming it you are changing the travel characteristics. Someone needs to invent a pneumatic wastegate operated by a selenoid (sp). That way it is infinantly adjustable.

Yeah but with pneumatics you can hold the gate shut until right at 1 bar, a spring type gate start opening slightly before 1 bar, activate and close it instantly, there would be many advantages
