What Are My Chances???

UUUh some of you guys are getting carried away here.
He does not want to run that new Z in the "twisties" with a vintage suspension 930 - he will get killed by an equal driver.
The 350z suspension is very modern and much better than the T-bar 930.
Did any of you guys happen to see who finally beat down the 962 in IMSA???
3 guesses.

The early 80's 930 pulled a .95 g in cornering for the European press back in the day with 225s in the back. A lower and stiffer 930 with modern tires will do substantially better than that.
I've driven all kinds of sport cars during my years selling cars and my 930 is just as fast as any of them on a backroad. Corvettes and American cars feel rather primitive and loose in tight corners on backroads. Mazdas don't seem to have good traction, they are too light in the rear. Nissans are somewhat soft and heavy in corners. Supras are heavy.
930s turn quickly and get good traction to launch out of corners. The limits of the 930 might show up at a track in the form of unsteady rear bias at high speeds when setting up for a corner, but this type stuff simply doesn't happen at regular road speeds on tight roads. The 930 is amazingly nimble on the backroad.
Especially versus a punk with no real skills in an automatic Z.

You are right Nathan- it should have been alittle faster but mine is an 85 with a 4spd, I took it easy between gears, had an almost full tank of gas and a passenger- my Daughter is also a little Porsche adict. It was a fun run... so shave a few tenths and we are right on.

You're right. Equal drivers, the modern car should be faster. After all, it's got 20 to 30 years of factory knowledge, development, and technology behind it. I'll give you that my prediction was based upon certain stereotypes. But if some guy seems to be all mouth, bolts on a turbo kit and starts talking trash, only seems to think that speed is determined in a straightline contest (as all his "kills" seem to be impromptu dragraces, and has an automatic (when manual transmissioned 350Zs are fairly plentiful and just as easy to purchase)--then I'd lean towards confidence in my car and my skills, despite the 2 to 3 decade gap in vehicle production dates.

Sorry I'm getting into this thread a bit late, but....
In my opinion this Z guy is a BoZo for comparing a modern Z car to a 20-30 year old car. That just makes no sense to me. My 930 is a 1981. That makes it 26 years old. So if I compare it to what was on the streets 26 years earlier, that puts me in 1955. I dont' think there was much around in 1955 that was worth a mention as far as performance goes. Cool cars yes,...performance anywhere close to the 1981 930? I don't think so.
I realize the technology curve from 1955 to 1981 was a lot differnent than 1981 to 2007,...but really,...how can you possibly compare the 2. We're talking 2 different generations.
If I bought a new performance car and it could'nt beat a car that is 25 years old or so, I'd be ashamed.
All that said,...I hope you clean the guys clock

No updates yet. My car is in line for installation of GHL headers and a complete service. After she is back in tip top shape, and with her new mod, I will be back on the prowl. I promise to post up results.

This arrogant pr**k posted up that his car makes 400whp & 420tq to the wheels.
I am wondering what kind of power I will need to make to beat him. I did a little research, and his car weighs nearly 500 pounds more than mine...
I am guessing that I will be somewhere between 325 & 350 to the wheels in my car...I *think* that might be enough...
