I think you can take him unless your starting from a dead start. His 6 speed and ability to drop the clutch will make it tough, unless you run a quarter mile or better. If you can bait him into a rolling start, you'll show him the better end of your 930 and never look back.

Get you car set up properly and i dont you will have a problem at all with this guy and his car!!..My opinion is that the 3.3 turbo is still a quick car even by todays standards..

Easy there fella...Nissan was not making anything per say better than a 930, 25 years ago, but they were making some great cars including the fantastic Z cars. Apples and Oranges in terms of price and status but not far off in performance.

He is not baiting me. I saw the car on a dyno a couple of months ago and he put down 343 to the wheels. I know he sent it away for a tune, and the RUMOR is that he is now at 403 to the wheels.
The motor is not built, but he has turned up the boost. This will be interesting. BTW, here is his car on the dyno: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrRr1ntyvGo
For the record, I am not actively looking for this guy, but if he sees me out and the opportunity presents itself, I am definitely out to embarass him.
Oh, one more thing...He could not beat my friend's NSX yesterday and I WALKED this NSX in a friendly race earlier this year, and I was running STOCK headers when I did it.... Here is the vid of the race between the 350 in question, and my friends very stout NSX...The owner of the 350 claims he was overboosting and as a result, his fuel was electronically cut and that is why he did not spank my buddy....You be the judge:

Hahaha....dude a stock 930 would beat that car.
It took 1/2 hour to spin the rollers - that engine is weak!
Not to merntion he tried to remove some weakness on the second run with timing - you can hear it knock.
I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it...watch out if he uses lower compression pistons, though......
Just watched the videos......
weak, dude....weak.
"Its overboosting!"
Yeah knucklehead - its pulling timing from that retard tune he got on that knock dyno.
That engine is not going to last long enough to race you.

i agree, a 2nd gear rolling start should see him jump out ahead until the wick on the 930 lights...then it is all over. 930's w/ 4 speed eat up a lot of ground in third and 4th gears!!! rolling start myles!!

I confident.. ok biased, that a well driven, similarly set-up 930 will smack that azz or if not.. at least make that 350 think that he was jus lucky that day!

Moral of this story.
There are two type of people in the world. Those that own Porsches and those that want to!
He obviously wants one. If you beat the NSX, you'll smoke him.

You didn't specify, but I take it the Z guy wants a drag race. You can tell him about the differences in vintage and purpose: that the 930 was built 20-30 years ago and his is a modern car; that the 930 was meant to go fast, but also left and right on a roadcourse, while he's building his car to be a drag racer. But he'll just take all those as excuses for you not wanting to get embarrassed. So, to shut him up (if it really bothers you that much), you'll have to race him. Just make sure you do it at the local dragstrip. While you may (or may not) be able to control your car in a race-type application, you can't control the other guy, nor other traffic/pedestrians/animals/etc. There was an article in the LA Times this past week about the police finally catching some guy who killed a Mom and child last month in a street race.

you got him, if his bottom end holds together long enough to race you. most of the turbo kits out there for the 350z are comprimised of cheap componets that will work well for a long time for moderate power gains, but aren't quite up to the task of supporting 400+ rwhp. and from the looks of his dyno, he didn't spring for the nice stuff.

I agree with Noah on safety- be careful and live to race another day.
That said i would like to add a note that I currently own both of the cars in question and are simliarly setup cars. That said I have been suprised by the little Z. Bench Racing numbers prior to the tubro on the 04Z of my wife's was 5.3 0-60 and ran the 1/4 between 13.7 to 14.2 depending on her holeshot. Not bad considering my 930 by the books was 5.1 stock and 13.6 1/4 stock. With the boost in the 930 at 1 bar, GHL headers, and exhaust the only run I ever ran was 13.9. Its not a dragster and I did not want to kill the transmission. Just for fun.
On to the turbo for the Z. Turbonetics installed T60 added a great kick but was very hard to manage in overboost and durability. 420WHP was the claim at 8psi and my experience with turbonetics and my 951 say it's probally more like 400. We set at 6psi for safety.
Now the Z had some kick after the low end launch. My wife's car can get me out of the hole from a dead stop by almost a car length until she shifts. ( laugh if you want most women can shoot better and have better reaction times ) It takes the 930 longer to pull but the fact that I am still in 2nd until almost 90 grabs the lenghts back. She will drop a couple of feet between 2nd and 3rd. It's very even after that. The Z does lose breath over 100 but unless you are somewhere you can play safely you and your POA will never find out.
The numbers don't lie and my experience seat of the pants says thier right. A Hard launch on the 930 keeps it close at the low end but get out of the hole slow the Z is fast. Have the room the 930 will always win. TWO DIFFERENT MACHINES-
He is trying to squeeze too much boost. I'll bet he is in the 12-14lb range. A rolling bomb for sure. It may be fast but you will not see it racing in 20 more years- Good luck in what ever you decide.
IMHO
