Default NOOB Question: anyone point me toward 930 import data?

Interested to know the production and import stats of the 930 (both '77-'79 and '87-'89).

I'm sure this has likely been kicked to death before, maybe just point me to the archives. I'll prod there as well when I get some time.

TIA!

I don't have my copy with me right now, but you can look all of that up in the Porsche Redbook. About the size of a thin paperback novel. Costs about $10 or so, and you can find it in your local Barnes & Noble or online at Amazon. Will give you all those sorts of figures.

1975
284 Turbos. All coupes.
(Red Book makes no mention of which markets for which these cars were intended.)

1976
644 ROW coupes
530 US coupes

1977
695 ROW coupes
727 US coupes

1978
735 ROW coupes
61 Japanese coupes
461 US coupes

1979
820 ROW coupes
32 Japanese coupes
1200 US coupes

1980
840 coupes

1981
698 ROW coupes
63 Canadian coupes
1 (only one!) of the total run of 761 cars was a slantnose.

1982
938 ROW coupes
89 Canadian coupes
38 of the total run of 1027 cars were slantnoses.

1983
1015 ROW coupes
65 Canadian coupes
35 of the total run of 1080 cars were slantnoses.

1984
804 ROW coupes
77 Canadian coupes
34 of the total run of 881 cars were slantnoses.

1985
1063 ROW coupes
85 Canadian coupes
44 of the total run of 1148 cars were slantnoses.

1986
1158 ROW coupes
88 Canadian coupes
1424 US coupes
52 of the total run were slantnoses. This was the last year that the slantnose was technically an option. Starting in 1987, it would be considered a regular production model.

1987
1158 ROW coupes
88 Canadian coupes
142 Canadian cabs
183 US cabs
69 ROW Targas
87 US Targas
87 ROW slantnose coupes
87 ROW slantnose Targas
87 ROW slantnose cabs
87 US slantnose coupes
87 US slantnose Targas
87 US slantnose cabs
? US coupes. The Red Book fails to list this category. However, looking at my own car's (US) VIN, I'm #698 on the sequential build list.

1988
677 ROW coupes
242 ROW cabs
136 ROW Targas
701 North American coupes
591 N.A. cabs
141 N.A. Targas
591 ROW slantnose coupes
591 N.A. slantnose Targas
591 N.A. slantnose cabs
591 N.A. slantnose coupes

1989
857 ROW coupes
115 ROW Targas
244 ROW cabs
639 N.A. coupes
109 N.A. Targas
600 N.A. cabs
No mention of any slantnose production numbers.

edit: I can't vouch for the authenticity of these numbers. I'm just regurgitating info.

Thanks Noah - precisely what I was looking for appreciate it!

Of course they don't break down the '87 US coupes - as that's what I have and was most interested in. D'oh! 8-)

Boy, '88 was a big year for them. Guess being the virtual "last year" of them (yeah 2nd to last but '89 they were focused on rolling out the 964).

Tx again.

Wow, I've had my 76 for 22 years. I have followed the market pretty closely and have never, not once seen a 75 for sale.

I have seen about ten 1975 930 turbo's for sale since I started playing with Porsche's in 1987-1988. Most were in Europe but have seen a couple for sale here in the U.S.

Thanks Noah for posting the numbers.

Rose is the guy who owns or owned it. It was for sale a while back. I believe he still posts here from time to time.

Guess that would be great....

I thought it was cool to have a low serial # car.. however, I really don't buy and own my cars neccesarily based on its resale potential as many people seem to do.. or should I say think they are doing. I'm an enthusiast first and I like to drive what I own... not sit it around and worry about the mileage. Not saying that anybody else here doesn't feel the same.

Sure, I've owned rare cars (some before they became rare), concours cars, and race cars, etc.. but it gets kinda boring polishing, insuring and worrying about nicks, origionality, and mileage. Guess my point being is that I see some many people buying these cars for the wrong reasons. Hey, by all means look for a good car, just don't let the "oh the value is going up on these" drive your decision. Buy it because you want it and you intend to use it, not because you think you're going to make money on it when time comes to let go. Sure, the pontential is there but so is the potential to loose your azz based a speculative buy!

One of my cars is a 73 911S, RS clone.. still unfinished resto #2, however I've owned the car since 1990, and I love the expression on the faces of some folks when I tell them about the RS flares and the removed battery boxes etc.. they always go "oh my God you cut an "S" " .... yeah, so? The car was cut and modded years ago, back when it was just an old 911. Is it worth a few bucks, probably..but that's not why I bought it!

Anyway, Good luck and happy hunting!
