I searched first, but I still need some expert advice
My '85 Euro 930 is letting me roll the power windows up and down even with the power off. I thought I had read somewhere in one of the forums that this was indicative of an electrical gremlin, either the alternator beginning to go or some major relay in the backend failing, or, a wiring error in a door, but I can't remember what and where I read that. (Give generously the next time a CRS rep calls on you! ;-) ) I tried about three different ways trying to locate this topic in the forums but no joy. Can anyone tell me is this normal for the car or is something else going on?
Thanks in advance for the help,
Jim P.

Jim,
My '85 Euro has done the same thing for at least 5-6 years, I haven't had any electrical gremlins yet either. I can operate the sun roof and both windows, with the key off and with the key removed, so maybe it's normal.

My '87 does it too after the engine has run and until the drivers door has been opened and shut once.
After the drivers door has been opened and shut once after running it won't do that anymore.
I figured it was a convenience thing that was built in.
The horn is hot all the time.

Placement of one wire either at the fuse box or in the drivers door.... can't remember which. I've set a couple of cars up this way, one intentionally the other by accident.. no big deal... get back on the gas!!

My '84 MY 3.2 carrera sport coupe allows the windows and roof to work while the doors are open (interior lights also come on) without keys in the ignition. I love this feature as I can open the windows and roof before even putting the keys in the ignition.
I can get out of the car after removing the keys and close windows and roof without the keys being in the ignition.
I take it this works from the pin switches in the doors.

Very cool, I appreciate the help guys! The car has been running well, and I just seemed somehow to notice this attribute. I've only owned it four years now, must be in the slow group.
Throttle down and the boost is on. Everybody keep it on the black and rubber side down!

Mine doesn't do it, but then i've had a full closure alarm fitted and he's made a bit of an **** of the wiring, i can only operate the passenger window from the drivers side, when it was last up at 9m they couldn't work out what he had done, something about it originally being an earth switch and now it's live or something, i'm sure i've got that wrong but someone might be able to make sense of it, wiring was never my strong point!

You are correct, this feature allows you to roll the windows and sunroof up after taking the key out, but the relay is supposed to deactivate once you open the door, signalled by the switch on the door post which also operates the dome light, buzzer, etc. You guys must drive your cars daily, because if the door switch is bad or corroded and doesn't work, the window relay stays activated all the time, letting you operate the windows at all times, but it also will drain your battery down after several days to a week of sitting. Pull you door switches and clean them or replace them.

Mine's Euro too Nathan, I'll clean the switches and see. Like I said, I donn't remember this behavior when I first bought it. But I just recently noticed it. Thanks again for everyone's help.
