Default Alternator replacement needed??????

I pulled my old crusty alt. out, it was working but I think bearings are bad. Why are new ones so damn expensive, its just an alt.? What is the benifit of the $600 95 amp alt. that Pelican sells. Who has the best prices on OEM replacement, and do I need to just buy alt. or are other parts required such as brushes, and voltage reg.? Thanx

You could always buy a remanufactured for about $100-200. If you hunt around some may be cheaper if you send them your core

I recently replaced mine with a re manufactured Bosch unit. It is a bit hard to justify the cost of a new OEM unit. My feeling is that it does not make the car run any better to have a new one,, so I went with the cheaper route. Leaves money for gas, tires, oil and mods.

Default I read the alternator upgrade on Pelican site ???S

If I replace my alt with the newer version that has the voltage reg. mounted on outside, what exactly do I have to do to modify my wires, I don't quite understand the write up. It says to cut a wire, and remove voltage reg located behind plastic panel next to fuel filter. Can anyone explain a little better?
