FUCHS and tire availabl\ility
I have a set of Fuchs and was told by someone that it will be difficult to get tires for the 8's and 9's soon as they wont make the 245 45 16 sizes or they will be very limited. Is this true?

Currently, there are plenty of tires at Tirerack and discount tire.
The problem is they aren't the top tires out there, like Michelin pilot sport 2's.
But you can still get some variety.
I have the Hankook Venturas from Discount Tire, and they are pretty good. Toyo Proxys are sticky but not really long lasting. Bridgestones are pretty good for a compromise tire, with harder rubber for longer wear. Fuzions are cheaper Bridgestones, not quite as good, another bargain tire.
There is stuff out there, you just have to learn about it.
I am not aware of any plan to simply end this tire size, so if anyone knows more about it please pass the word on to the rest of us.

Thanks for your input DDD.
These are my favorite wheels and in my search for 16x9's someone suggested that I will have no tire selection in time for this application and that has me worried.
As DDD said, anyone with more info. please let us know.

I have a set of almost new Michelin Pilot's for the front, but could NOT find any Michelins for the rear in 245. A couple guys in Australia responded but htey wanted almost $450 per tire....so I ended up going to the Potenzas (RE750) in the staggered fitment. So far they've been ok, but I havent put much mileage on them to this point. I got them from American Tire who told me that if they were noisy, they'd make good on them.
The problem is that the main manufacturers will produce the 245's for a couple years, then quit...I guess there's not that much call for them in the OEM sizes, so they phase them out. I think I only found about three manufacturers who made the 245/45/16's...and no telling how long they'll be making them. My problem is that the fronts outlast the rears about two to one...so you end up with a set of fronts that are almost new...but the rears are toast. Unless you want to mix brands, you end up with a couple tires in the garage that have no staggered equivalents.

You guys are gonna laugh, but I have had pretty good experience with Kumhos on my P-Cars and on my bimmer. They last a long time, they give plenty of warning if they start to feel abused and are relatively quiet on highway trips. Plus, they are more economical than some of the other stuff that is out there.

Having a 930 with 208000 miles on it....I have plenty of tire experience. I hace both the original 16" Fuchs and 18's..also. When I got the car in 1999 (with 44,000) it had a almost new set of SO2's.. not good..noisey and low tread life. I also tried a set of AVS sports on the 18's...terrible....had a life of 6000 miles! I bought Kuhmo 712's for both the 16 and 18's and had a very good experience with both sizes...quiet and 12,000 to 15,000 on the rears of the 18's and better on the 16's. However...Kuhmo now does not make a 245/45. I decided to try a set of Fuzions on the 16's...these things are great...made by Bridgestone..look very good...now have 5000 miles on them and the rears show very little wear....quiet...great ride...better than the Kuhmos...and very good in rain. A good tire shop like Gran Turismo in Chamblee,Ga..where the alignment is done right thru just plain experience and were they are final balanced ON THE CAR...is a lot of the battle with tires and tire life....especially 911's.

Bruce: First of all my congratulations for the obvious care you've taken to get your car to 208K miles. Secondly, do you have any information regarding the comparison between the Fuzions and the Potenzas? They're both Bridgestone tires...and I ended up going with a staggered set of the Potenza RE750's.
I was wondering how the Fuzions would do up against the Potenzas insofar as longevity, performance, and noise.
