Great thread!
I drive my P cars daily. Ran 2 x 3.2's for around 6 years and loved them. In fact big reason for going 965 was aircon.
My 965 was too soft... progress over the previous generation? so I made it lower, harder and noiser... just like a 911/930?
If you love driving, get a 930 or 965, but you'll probably have to rebuild the aircon (I had to)

I only have one car...my 79 930, and live in the driest and hottest place on earth. The slight con of the below average AC is completely overshadowed by the huge pros of driving such a beast around town. I drive mine every day and LOVE IT! I never see any other 930s but see heaps of 996s and 997s, and you can just feel the envy of the guys/gals that drive these as they see you cruise past! Get the 930...you wont look back!

I had mine as a garage queen and it seemed to nickle and dime me. When I started to use it as a daily driver not a problem... After over modifing the car I had to buy a daily driver so I bought a 996 twin turbo x50. I had put a condenser underneath the car and the air was fine. I also added a front mount oil cooler so I didn't notice it running hot at all. It was great as a daily driver with just bolt ons.

Back to the topic. I'm using my 930 as a daily driver right now. It's fantastic. But if I lived in a steaming hot place, or had lots of bumper-to-bumper stop-and-go, or had to put tens of thousands of miles on it annually--I might feel differently.

You know, I hardly ever flash my lights and/or wave anymore to the "new iron". I've just gotten too many blank stares from anything that takes water. And anyway, beyond our crests, there isn't much in common. So the other day maybe out of an old nervous habbit, I flash my lights at a Boxster. The look on his face said it all: "why is that VW Beetle flashing his lights at me"? What a f_cking jug head! Never again. I don't even know what I was thinking.

Ted - used my 82 for daily driver, in Houston traffic, rain, shine, from 30 degrees F to 110 degrees F and 80% humidity 64 miles round trip each day for 16 months, 6 days a week until I changed jobs that required me to park without covered parking... my compression is 7.5 to 1 and displacement is 3.4l, I added a 44row MOCAL to replace the brass tube cooler and added 2, 6 inch fans. There were a total of 6 times in 13 months that I had to pull over due to temperature or high water. I would still be driving her every day, but just couldn't stomach seeing her sit there in the blazing sun. Tried the car cover for 3 months, but folding a car cover in a driving rain storm, was not good for me nor the trunk carpet... I have to tell you that I never, ever had a bad day for those 16 months and if I did I don't remember them.

How old school is a 930???
The other day, my friend and I were filling up our gas tanks, his 911 and my 930. I looked down at my front tire and there is a pool of gas forming on the ground.
I am like "WTF???"
Scott says, "OH that is just to keep you from overfilling the tank, they put a hole in there, it's old school."
So here I am running a flame throwing zork pipe exhaust at the gas station with a pool of gas forming in front of my car because that is how Porsche kept people from overfilling their tank back in the day.
So Scott says, "Just back out....."
And then he jumps in his car and takes off really fast to get away from the pump.
That's how old school a 930 is.
