Default Needed: 3.3 ltr Motor & Opinions

Okay, my car is motorless...i'm looking for a motor to use until I upgrade and do a full build out with EFI etc. I want to stay with a stock 3.3 and 915 tranny (which I am also in need of).

Any idea on what a good price for the motor and tranny would be? I need to build a ball park range on what to spend so I don't get abused on this one.

And if it had slightly more power than stock I wouldn't complain.

The 930 car came with a 4 speed 930 tranny, not a 5 speed 915 from the SC.

The 915 is too weak.

if you have a power train to get then get a turbo 3.6 and a g-50 or a 6 speed. most of the people here modify their 3.3's to 3.4 etc. but if given the choice of starting from scratch would probably start with a 3.6. every one else chime in here if you dont agree with me.

Ask Stephan at IA or Steve Weiner at Rennsport Systems. They have pricing and engines.

Nathan, thanks - I've been a bit fuzzy on the name of the tranny that goes in the 930, so its not a 915, thanks!

Ken, I was thinking about upgrading, but with this car I want the vintage feel and sound from the 3.3. Plus in stock form this is going to be more than a handful for me to learn with. My GTR will be for the more modernized driving.

Rocket, thanks

Stock form LOL yeah that will last about a week,, then it will be hmm maybe a better turbo.. then while the turbo is off why dont I put on headers.. of look it's using some oil time to redo the heads and twin plug it and while the heads are off better cams... We have ALL been there!! have fun it's going to be a long ride

Guns951, I would consider a 3.2L engine which comes with EFI then turbo charge it (you will have to lower the compression). You can run the Motronic and Wasted Spark as I'm doing on my personal 930. Better yet, find a 964 engine and you convert it to turbo.
3.2L and 964 engines are much easier to get than a 3.3L, and you will end up with better flowing heads and EFI.

I bought a used fuel pump from the fellow at Oklahoma Foreign today...they just got a wrecked 88 930 in and IIRC it took a hit in the left rear quarter. You might give them a call and see what sort of shape the engine is in.

He does know the 3.3 and 3.2 cranks are the same, right?
