found out what my top speed is today
Well today I found out what my top speed is at the moment. the headers and new wast gate are still sitting at home waiting for installation after I get through with all the Florida tag agency crap. My 4th and hopefully last trip there is monday. Any ways on the way in to work today was one of the random days that the factory waste gate was working. So I opened it up to see what it would do . when I got to 150 it got really noisy in the car so I slowed back down, when I got to work I pulled the targa top off and one of the front clips had popped off the frame. So it looks like unless I run some duct tape over the leading edge of the top, whick I will do when i take it to the track. I am aerodynamically challenged beyond 150. I was still pulling hard and fast when it happened so after I get my top redone and I get the headers and new waste gate . I cant wait!! .... Oh as a disclaimer I will neither confirm or deny any bending of speed limits on long country roads with no ther cars around.

Speeding/reckless driving ticket: A lot more than $150-300, plus insurance, and you get to do it once.
Track day fee: $150-300, estimated. Run fast all day. Every lap. For the same price...
(Doesn't mean none of us have ever stretched the car('s legs), though. Recently, I do enough track days where street speeding doesn't appeal at all anymore)

I personally don't approach the top speed of my car on the street, but the point of this thread was clearly not a discussion about the pros and cons of track versus street.
Some of us don't want to drive to some far away track and use up a set of tires and put that kind of wear and tear and dents and dings on our cars. Some of us are happy to take a spin around the block and then go back to whatever more important things we are doing that day. With a smile on our face.

DDD, take it easy, dude, it was tongue in cheek. An ill-fated take on the MasterCard commercials, without the cheesy "priceless" part. So serious, you are!!
Plus, Ken states in his post that he will be tracking the car.
As for haulin a$$ around the block and smiling, as long as the block isn't lined with houses full of kids and people pulling out of their driveways, smile all you want... I would also think that the safety of your neighbors is far more important than some dings and wear on your tires. But that's just me.
Ken, yes, with a C/D value of anywhere between .38 to .4, our cars will need serious HP to go very fast. Also, most Porsche speedometers are optimistic anyway.

The nearest track to me is 300+ miles. My daughter, then daughter and son, then son only have been taking Sunday drives for 20+ years. My son is off to college in about 2 weeks. Man I'm going to miss those drives. I thought that if you didn't get it up to 150 it didn't count as a drive. Been stopped 1 time in all those years. I live in a remote, and I do mean remote part of Texas that has billiard top smooth country roads with sweeping curves and straights 2-3 miles for as long as you can stand it.

I think the only person who appears to have wigged out was 38D.
Perhaps you are being defensive because I mentioned that this thread was not a comparison of road versus track, and then explained that some of us live in a world where racetracks are not on every street corner and we also have other pursuits that require or time and energy? But I am merely stating the facts in a calm and objective matter, which appears to have given you the impression that I am somehow the one trying to stir things up?
I was merely deflecting Ken from feeling that he will be bashed and called an idiot for posting his experiences with his 911. After all, this forum is to be enjoyed by all of us, not just the guys that spend every weekend at the track.

I don't know, maybe it was the "Some of us are happy to take a spin around the block and then go back to whatever more important things we are doing that day." that made me write about your neighbors.
In my neck of the woods, a block is just that, a stretch of street with stores, houses, or both. Lucky for you to have a country road as your block, and shame on me for not being able to extract this from your original reply. My bad, I guess...

Why are we even having such a conversation anyway?
You need to chill.

Sorry to cause an uproar. was just surprised the targa top acted that way. and just to be clear the road is about 6 miles long no curves potato fields on both sides and no other cars or people for miles. there are a number of people where I work and few cops here and there that use this road for winding out thier porsches vipers and z06's. So what do you guys do at the track to keep the top from blowing off. I'm a little concerned that might happen. if i ever get the dmv crap straightened out i'll be taking it to sebring in July
