Default Time for new tires

Well, my car is in for its valve adj and I noticed the rear tires are shot. I currently have the Yoko's AVS 100's and was wanting to know if there is something out there. I don't mind changing ouit the fronts. Not the best for hard cornering.

If you are talking 225+245 16" tires, I think the Hankook Ventus are the best out there.

Never heard of Hankook? If you go to discounttiredirect.com and look up the reviews, that tire beats out the Yoko AVS, and people that are autocrossing are using the Hankooks.

Tirerack doesn't carry them, but none of the tires in the standard 930 size that they sell are any better performance wise. Hankooks are worth checking out.

I had the Bridgestone, and they are hard. The fuzion is made by bridgestone, and is the same basic tire. Contis are soft, expensive, and don't last. Sumitomos are heavy and not very high performance.

Avon is going to stop making tires in 225 size so tirerack is discontinuing them.

The most impressive thing about the Hankooks to me was that the sidewall looked perfect on my fuchs, they fit perfect, like they were made just to fit my rims. My bridgestones were too rounded around the sidewall, you might be able to see that in my avatar. My rims are 7 inch and 9 inch.

The Hankooks are sticky tires, but they also are supposed to hold up well for a performance tire.

Michelin Pilot Sport Cups...225 and 245. get em warmed up and you can't ask for more grip in the corners.

+1 on the Hankook Ventus...at $100 a tire, they are very hard to beat! A big improvement over my old Dunlop SP8000

Toyo Proxes T1R available in 245x45x16 and much better than Hankook. I have a fair bit of experience in tires as I used to run a tire store a few years ago. Hankook might be good value but in terms of overall performance they don't compare to the Toyo's. I have had both on my 930 and and would'nt go back, I would however go forward to Pilot Cup Sports which I had on my 951S and they were quite remarkable, so too is the price. Mild track use only seen 9,000kms out of the rears though. The Toyo's offer plenty of feedback through the twisties. Horses for courses on this one.

Hankook is carried by Discount Tire Direct (that other 4-page ad in the back of car mags). They might not have your size in stock, though. I tried purchasing a set of rears recently, and they were out for an indefinite period. No FHE experience with the tire (though they were my #1 preference when I went shopping around), but Discount Tire has been pretty reliable the few times I've used them. Their prices may be a few bucks more than Tire Rack, but they don't charge for shipping. Comes out to be about the same, maybe a little less.

Are you sure Michelins come in that size?

The cheapest place to buy Hankooks is edgeracing.com, they are cheaper than discounttire.com. I think they also have the Toyo brand which Dewolf likes much better.

Discount tire just happens to have reviews of the hankooks. Edge racing has the best prices.

Michelin's are available in that size. They are here in Oz so I would assume that would apply for the rest of the world. Very expensive tire here though. A 245x45x16 is AU$500 a shot.

I have used Pirellis for 7 years and recent P Zero Nero System is good. 240 trendwear, directional tread on front and asymetrico tread pattern rear. Not inexpensive, but I alway have exceptional adhesion.

The 996 just received new Contis with a 280 treadwear. I didnt want to change to Pirellis from the Contis so another hundred bucks each was still worth it.

Yes Michelins always served me well during the 1990's on Beemers.

Lastly, I would put the P zero system on it.

Regards,

I am bumping this thread so Chuck can check it out....

Good tire review. I was a little disappointed that the Hankooks don't brake very well, even though they handle good...I like them so far.

DDD: thanx....bookmarked the review...but the review only focused on 2005 and newer models....the search routines didn't have any of the older cars like my 87....I'm afraid that there are only two or three manufacturers who make the tires for the staggered factory 16 inch Fuchs.

Scott is checking with his Aussie folks to see if there's something over there. Thanx for the bump.
