What to look when buying a 930?
Which are the main points when looking for a 930?
I came across of a 1986 930 with 32k kms (~20k miles) and the car is nice as far as I can tell.
Drives very nicely, doesn't pull into any direction when accelerating or braking, goes very brutally from 3.5k
Oil pressure is ~2 bar at idle. No smoke from exhaust, no odd noises etc.
Shifting is a little odd? (I am used to 996s so that might explain this?) One needs a certain level of "determination" to change gears. Is this normal?
There's a scratch in the passenger door which someone has tried to buff out but they managed to damage the lacquer and there's a small dent / scratch front left (pass) side front valance.
He's asking eur 21k which is about US $25k (the car is not located in the US that is)
Here's the data of the car:
Type 930 770
93066-67G
93036-77G
L999 paint
71
Options: C99 S
What does option C99S stand for?

These cars did not have lacquer (unless it's been repainted, at which point I'd be wanting to know why).
It's a good price overall, but I'm not sure about the option code.
you need to make sure the engine is healthy. Get a proper pre Purchase Inspection done and ensure that they do a compression and leakdown test.
I like to compare the shifting to an old Ventura I drove.. it takes some getting used to.

The biggest cost if things go wrong after you buy it are the engine and tranny. Get those checked thoroughly before you buy it. Other things can be expensive but not $8,000 to $10,000 up front. If it has A/C it will need to be replaced, $2,500. Brakes and rotors, $1,000 to $1,200. Cosmetics at your leisure. You will always remember this car no matter what happens after you buy it.

Looks beautiful and well-preserved. It makes me sad, as my white 930 has been in the shop for an engine rebuild for months now....Enjoy the car and keep us posted as to how the experience is relative to a 996...

(C)99 is a custom metallic paint option code.
The car was ordered from the factory with a special paint and interior - i.e. white pearlescent colour and beige / black piping electric (memory) leather seats.
Even the face of the ashtray is leather and it has a leather center console. Also it has two small glove compartments under the dash. Never seen those on a 930 but then again I haven't seen that many 930s (Are these std?)

Sounds like a nice motor! 21K Euros is an extremely good deal for an 86 930 with 32k kms, I'd check the kms though, I paid 24k Euros for a near mint 86 930 with 115k kms!!
