I don't get how one can fully exploit a 930 safely except for at the track. That's the only safe place to stretch it's legs!

No. Stick with a good street tire like a MPS2 until you've done a ~15-20 DE days. Then you can move up to the cups.

Any car can bite you. Super stiff race cars are more likely to do so as the line is much thinner between fast and crashed.

The points made about the tires are very much appreciated and sound like they are dead on. I think multiple wheels and tires are going to be with me next weekend.

I am looking at a few boxsters for a track car. What do you guys think? I would keep it stock for now and slowly add things to make it handle better. Then slowly move onto the 930. Thoughts?

Thanks again.

If I could make an addition to my stable; it would be a G class car with a rear engine; it's a true momentum car...

I would stay with a 911 if you want to learn a 911.. SC or Carrerra (78-88 in general)..

Thanks for the nice words, Colin & Gary!

Scott - I agree with Gary regarding your next car. The earlier 911's (SC Carrera) are very similar beasts to the 930. Learn on them and you've got most of the characterisitcs down. The 930 has a wider rear track, better brakes, bigger tires, and of course more springy power. The Boxster is a totally different car. Meant for girls. DOH! That one's going to come back to bite me, but it was fun.

There's a really great guy in our club who can sling his boxster around quite well actually. However, the SC is far more tuneable, cheaper, and mimics the dynamics of your 930. Get the hang of the SC and you'll love the 930. Drive a boxster or cayman and you'll sell your air cooled classic and never learn what it's like.

Oh, re different turbos for quicker boost - I'm researching doing that for mine now. For you, I'd suggest staying with the lag, and see if you can't dial down the boost as is, or use a taller gear. When you're comfortable with the way the car handles then maybe look into more responsive turbos. Just my two cents.

Good luck.
