I did the same thing as 911Rudy posted...took a stock air box and modified it (i.e., hacked off the end) to accomodate a K&N cone filter. I don't think any HP improvements were noted (seat-of-the-pants, anyway), but the air intake noise is greater which makes one think that POWER is happening! It's all in your perspective. But it sure does clean up the engine bay.

Looks nice with the space.

I personally feel not happy using the warm engine air to feed
the turbo.

A application which allows to use more fresh/cold air would be better.
Means a connection to somewhere outside the engine bay.

Few here spend a lot $ on bigger ICs.
I think a good 1st step is to use fesh outside air.

But, truly I havnt the experience or measured engine bay temps, maybe they are fine.

I agree there's probably no measurable HP gain with the after-market unit, unless you change headers and maybe the Throttle Body diameter. Then you're on that slippery slope to a ful blown EFI, and engine mod. However, I believe the "cold air" (I don't know how anything in that enginge compartment can be classified as "cold") unit probably will increase the density of the air charge fractionally and thus make for a more complete, efficient burn of what you have, meaning less emissions. I think the real big deal is getting rid of all of that claptrap in the rear end, saving on weight and increasing access.
