I hate to sound like a broken record with this, as I've mentioned it several times before, but a friend of mine who lives one street over in my neighbothood drives his '84 930 every day and has for nearly 20 years (he's the second owner)!!! He has approximately 120,000 miles on it. He's had one engine rebuild and the thing just runs like sewing machine! The body has paint chips and dings, the interior has rips and tears, but I love his car! And it's because I know how much enjoyment he's gotten out of using it...not looking at it!
I will add this, I do a lot of routine maintenance to mine to ensure that it's kept in top running order...so just keep in mind that this isn't as simple as a more modern daily driver Honda which could probably go to infinity and beyond without opening the hood (oil changes not withstanding).

I have been driving a 986 for the last 3 years as a dd and has received some
great care!! This 930 will be no different and allways covered!
I am in the late stages of garage space negotiations with my wife on how her
SUV would really be happier parked in the driveway

One of the greatest satisfactions of a daily driver 930 is rolling slowly through the parking structure at work (major University hospital) and having all the car alarms on the new Mercedes and BMW's (most of which will never see the fun side of 2500 rpm) go off from the rumble of the B&B no-cat exhaust at idle. This is followed by the anxious stares of any pedestrians in the structure towards me... (insert evil laugh here)...

Ok.....so I know that writing this here can start a show (a fun one I hope) and I've already got a huge grin on my face as I post this but.....careful.......unless you have some good mods in your 930 I wouldnt under rate some of those other rides, especially the Z06. Even the earlier Z06's run good stock and many of those are sleepers now. I've already had my butt handed over to me by the latest Z06 against my stage1 996TT. And the AMG's? I dont know.....I have an E55 and it hauls azz. 469 ponies with 516 ft/lbs of instant torque... stock. I did have an earlier Z06 that was lowered with an exhaust system play around with me some time back. He kept trying to take off on me down an old lonely freeway early one morning but the E55 was right on the side of him. They were just short burts though.

I am with you as far as the new Z06---they have more everything. I can only speak from experience. Maybe the guy had problems with his older version at that point...who knows...he was certainly trying to race me. I can tell you it was over by the beginning of third gear on my car. Also the Mercedes was the Ebody and from the sound it was supercharged(although there was much ambient noise, not the least of which was mine) and he was very very fast up to around 100 then mine started to get past.
Some perspective here: We are talking about racing the most recent best and the brightest, stuff that we would not have believed would exsist event 7 or 8 years ago with a somewhat modified car that is almost 20 years old. That is flat out amazing and makes these cars special. Show me a Ferrari(except the F40) or Mercedes or certainly Vette from that era that could even come close to that kind of performance. I still maintain that is why the value of these cars is underestimated.

Yeah, Z06s are the only thing I have any trepidation in taking on. I just try and make sure we are on some real tight twisties (hard to find here in FL, but there are a couple). I haven't seen too many AMG guys willing to "come out and play," act like its some how beneath them to actually use anything they paid for. Bimmers are fair game, as are Jags (even the 400hp supercharged S-types). I di get embarrassed by a rice rocket sleeper. I didn't think he had anything so wasn't really pressing, when he hit the NO2 button. That little Honda Civic really moved out! But, I'd only admit it to you guys and like Orlando Bloom says in the original Pirates of the Carribean, "You Cheated!"
