79 930 question, sitting for 13 years....

There is a way that you can pull out the plunger in the middle of the head and clean. BUT, I dont think there are new gaskets availalbe, so dont split the head apart. I do have a new fuel head for sale if you need it...

Imagine Auto (www.imagineauto.com) can rebuild it for you, and mod it too, if you need/want. There's also a shop here in Texas that does it, but I'll have to look for the info and repost later.

Check this link mikez, it's for the rebuild and mod, so that gives you an idea. Good to see you over here too

Maxx,
I talked to the A/C guy at retro air and he said to ask you how you liked the system he sold you. Can you give me an update on it? I've got to replace mine this winter.

$540...not bad. I was expecting 1500. Wonder if this is all that's needed.
So Cal Mike...where are you located?
Here's a pic BTW.....

Mike, I'm in South OC. We met on a Rennlist run a couple years ago, where we met up with you SB guys at the Porsche Dealership and then ran up to Cold Springs Tavern for lunch. Lots of fun following you and Ingo in your 3.6 conversions
BTW, what are the symptoms that lead you to a clogged head? You can test the system by pulling the fuel injectors out of the blocks and push down on the cis flap while the system is energized to check for even flow. Of course the injectors may need a soaking in cleaner too. If you get a particular injector with less flow, you can swap out injectors to determine whether it is an injector problem or fuel head distribution problem. The caveat though is that the phenolic injector blocks get mighty brittle over time and may crack upon injector removal.

OK...I remember you now.....
I don't have any gauges to test fuel pressure....but I replaced the front fuel pump, the rear one works, pumped the lines clear, put on a new fuel filter and it will fire up and run without the charge pipe from the flapper assembly hooked up.
As soon as the rubber elbow is attached to the low pressure side of the turbo, it dies. Won't restart. Sounds to me a fuel pressure or distribution problem.
I just don't want to buy a $540 part and not be the problem.....as well as one that has been ported to euro specs....is that really an upgrade or is it just a way to spend more bucks at the gas pump?

I wouldn't buy anything until you've put CIS gages on it.
I've pulled the piston out of an SC fuel dist. and cleaned it. Is a 930 any different?
BTW, I've got a box of 79 930 FI & ignition parts if you need anything

Mike, I'd pull off the air cleaner housing and expose the cis flap and see if it moves freely and smoothly. As it pivots down, it's pushing the fuel plunger up ,providing more fuel. If it's stuck in the closed position, then you've got no air which is why the engine dies when you hook up the rubber elbow.
The distributor mod just depends on your future plans, but gives you a ballpark on rebuild costs. Knowing your project cars though, unless you decide to go efi, you'll be wanting that extra fuel
