I am a new 88 turbo owner in the Charlotte NC area, I would like to have my car restored to better than new condition with some engine mods and I definately have to have the Air conditioning enhanced. I am also interested in new paint. Does anyone have suggestions in the Charlotte area for a 911 turbo mechanic, a good paint shop and an ac shop. I have thought of shipping my car to IA but would rather have things done here for long term reasons. This is my "dream car"but I had to wait 17 years to make it happen and would like to return the car to "new" condition with some modern improvements such as an AC system that cools in 95 degree summers with 80% humidity and an engine that runs cooler and quicker(mine is stock). While Thomasville is probably about ~70 miles from where you are, and therefore not ideal to you, there is a place called SpeedWerks in Thomasville, NC. I have had good experience there before on smaller jobs, and I have spoken to folks who have had bigger jobs done there, and the feedback has been all positive so far. I am currently having them do a M48 conversion on mine as well as a complete rebuild with some enhancements (3.6 RS crank, Carrillo rods, etc.). So far they've moved pretty swiftly on my job. The shop is run by one of the co-owners, David Brown. He's been building all kinds of Porsche engines for the last almost 28 years. They also race so they build race cars (962s and 935s etc.) there, but also street cars. Their phone number is: (336) 475-6570. I'm sure they would know a paint shop as well.

 

David at SpeedWerks is good. I've had him do some work on my car in the past. Someone who is closer is in Indian Trail, just south of Charlotte. I think it's called Eurowerks? Jim is the owner. Brian Keith Smith is in Concord, NC and gave you better info on all your questions.

I'd look into the Griffiths system for your AC project ... and definitely add yourself an extra oil cooler because the 930 will run warm down there in Charlotte.
