Default Why is the 930 the right car for you?

I have owned 2 930's, 1 965, and many other sports cars. I keep coming back to the 930 for many reasons. Here are mine, not in order. What are your reasons?

Here are the reasons I LOVE it.

1) Perfect combination: to me a sports car has to be good for a lot of reasons not just one.
2) Fast: a well modified 930 is as fast as any street legal car even today.
3) Beautiful: a well maintained 930 still looks better than any other car under $100k. A Mistu Evo is a very fast and capable car (I owned a 2003) but it is never going to look as nice as a 930.
4) Exclusive: A new Z06 is a fantastic car but anyone with good credit can have one. It takes appreciation of finer things, patience, cash reserves (maint & upgrades), and research to keep a 930 running well.
5) Skill: Anyone can drive a new car fast (Evo, Z06, 996, 997). It takes skill to drive a 930 fast and keep the headlights pointing where you are going not where you have been.
6) Streetable: An Ariel Atom is about the same $$ and much faster but you can't pick your kids up from school in it.
7) Trackable: A well modded 930 can keep up with almost anything on the track. I'd rather put a $30k-$50k car at risk than a $75k+ car.
8) Not an 'image' car: A 930 can be bought for less than a Honda Accord it is not a prestigous car. Other cars of similar capabilities seem to project a pretensious image. The 930 is just a great older car.
9) Not a 'ricer' car. My Evolution was a great drivers car. Like the 930 it responds well to modifications. But, you are instantly associated with anyone that has ever put a wing on a Civic.

-For me it is the ultimate "hairy chested" sports car! It drives like a normally aspirated SC around town, but when you put your foot into it, things happen so very quickly and the entire demeanor of the car changes!!!!!
-I adore the sound! I can't remember the last time I ever bothered to put the radio on.
-I love the brutish and very masculine looks!
-I love the overbuilt nature of the mechanicals.
-I love the idea that I haven't seen or passed another one in literally three months...and that was the guy whoi lived down the street from me who happens to own an '84.
-I love that I can carry my wife and two kids in it...talk about stares!
-I love when I run accross a 930 that has over 100,000 miles on the clock and is still going strong!

Mine has 98k and is just about ready for many many more. There were only 2 air cooled 911 turbos in my home town and I owned them both. I recently sold the 965 so now I have the only one.

I just think that the 930 is the sharpest looking 911 ever made and that the 911 is as classic a sports car as any ever made, so why not get the best example?

993's are nice, of course, but with the more streamlined fenders and smooth look, it is just diluting the lines of the original.

The early cars are skinny and the late models are boring looking, even the blinged out 997 turbo, trading bling for classic appeal just doesn't do it for me.

The 964 is nice too, but are starting to lose a little of the vintage look. Still a very nice car, but not as raw and simple looking. They look heavier, and they are heavier. My car has a listed weight of 2630 lbs, and that's the way I like it!

I even have mixed feelings about the front spoiler on my car, it looks great in real life but disturbing in pictures, because I am so used to the way the 930 should look that the front spoiler distracts me a little. I do like having the tea tray spoiler, for intercooling and good looks.

I used to have a 94 3.6 turbo. It is heavier and feels heavier. Clearly, in stock form it is a much better car but I still prefer the 930. The 930 is light and raw and you can feel everything your tires are experiencing.

I can agree with DRV. But it works the other way too. Some of us 965ers are making our cars more raw to get back to the 930 spirit. I suppose the ultimate is a cross between 930 and 965!
Either way, these versions are beautiful!!

I had a very hard time deciding which one to sell.

men are drawn to curves ... its the curves for me ... nothing is sexier than a 930 and let's not forget the punch that it carries.
also, what are the chances of the evo, ariel, z06 being around in 20-25 years time? will they still be on the road ... would anyone care. the 930s have stood the test of time.
