Default Borla XR1 or Magnaflow Mufflers?

Anyone on this board used the Borla XR1 or Magnaflow Mufflers in their Turbo?

They look like a very high quality unit.

Wondering how they sound on an air cooled turbo?

They are priced fairly cheap and I don't think it'd cost much for an exhaust shop to plumb it all in place. ~$300 max I'd expect.

Pics of installs would be appreciated

Thanks Sandman.

I'm thinking of using this one in my setup:

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=613

At only $200, it's a no brainer. I don't really want to pay $1k for a FS or B&B/GHL unit!!!

DonE, is this the muffler you are using? How do you find the quality and sound? Any droning resonance when cruising on the FWY etc? How does it sound at WOT?

I'm also planning to mate this to a GT35R BB Turbo and Schnell Headers. Should compliment the setup nicely, I hope.

Anyone know where I can get a nice rolled S.S oval tip with 3" inlet to suit?

Yes, but I got it at a local dealer for $125. Sound is subjective, however there is NO resonance at any RPM and the quality of the muffler is excellent - welds and stuffing. There has been no reduction in sound quality since I have had it on my car. At idle, its quiet. At cruise, you can easily hold a normal conversation in the cabin. At WOT, you can rattle the windows of the houses around you. And just as importantly, when I changed out my straight pipe for the magnaflow on the dyno (20 min swap), there was no loss in HP. And even it were aluminized, who cares as it sits up under the car and no one will see it. If you get it, I think you will really like the muffler and the additional money in your pocket.

Thanks for the feedback, Don. Much appreciated

Good to see people are posting recommendations for alternative, quality products for our cars.

Here is a pic of the Magnaflow on Tripster's car. Less than $200 installed.
It sounds FANTASTIC!

RarlyL8, what part # is that muffler, with the twin outlets?

I've only seen a single in/out on their WEB page?!?

I don't recall the part number. Your local speed shop will have them for a Camero or Buick GN application.
The muffler is a 3" inlet with dual 2.5" outlets. You can get 3" outlets but the smaller 2.5" should give a better sound with less resonance (none).
I love the way that muffler sounds. The volume is just right and you can hear the turbo spool at even normal driving speeds. The design is straight-through which does not rob turbo power like a chambered design would.

Is this the one?

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=478

or:

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=636

The 3" inlet is on the wrong side tho.

Yes, both of those will work. The 3" inlet is not on the wrong side, just turn the muffler over (it has the logo on both sides).
