Default Tial 46mm wastegate

I just bought one of these from a friend who used it on his BMW turbo setup...
I noticed that Tial has 2 kinds of 46mm wastegates listed, one specifically for oem replacement on 911 turbos... Would someone enlighten me as to what the difference is...? I 'm guessing they just machined off the fins so it can fit on the stock heat exchanger setup. correct? I don't think I'll have a problem with the regular 46mm gate on non-factory headers...

I think they finned two sides to fit the exhaust, although looking at mine this weekend, I can't see where it would have hit.

I was thinking the same thing, wonder why they machined the fins down...

Factory or aftermarket headers...any TiAL 46mm will fit...tried both and they both fit purrrfectly.

Yasin,
Did you use the factory gasket or did the Tial come with one...
I'm not sure if I'm getting much besides the wastegate and barbs...
I'm going to order a new spring(s) for it to keep the boost @ 1 bar.
(Tial's spring color chart differ then what some of their distributors say)
So I'm a little confised as to what spring(s) to order.
Check this out to see what I mean.

(They confict on recommended pressures...)

Yasin,

Are those coilovers? If so, what manufacturer? I have a leaking coilover that looks like that, but I can't determine the manufacturer who would make such an item.

Thanks in advance.

If you have the stock exhaust, you have to go with two springs, which really make 1 bar I think.

If you have an after market exhaust, you use one spring, like a .8 bar spring from what I recall.
The aftermarket is much more effecient that the less spring is used (or so I was told and what I did)

I would ask about the st st braided line and fittings as well. Something I need to change on my car....

Just looked at the two links. I would go with what Tial says. The ex. large green or blue spring with the yellow spring seems right for a stock exhaust. Then just a large green for an aftermarket exhaust.

Forced performance could have their own springs and they certainly don't seem to match up with Tial.

Forced Performance is an official Tial distributor... that's why I can't figure out the different ratings...
I sent them an email to get to the bottom of this before I spend money on the wrong springs...

is it a good idea to do this mod when upgrading to say full GHL exhaust or can I stay with my OEM piece?

There are two versions. One has a smaller valve section to clear the valve covers so you don't have to remove the gate to take the cover off. Otherwise the unit will be very close to the covers ad might hit.

If you tell me what your setup s I can tell you what rate and color you need for the gates. I think we sell more gates than anyone for the 930s. I probably have the spring in stock.

Lexlyf - No my car is not running on coilovers...as much as I would like to!

Emanuel - I used all the TiAL supplied gaskets - this was a complete kit complete with the most beautiful stainless bolts as well...bought from www.roadraceengineering.com

I used to two springs to take it to 1bar of boost.

With the springs, the general rule of thumb seems to be to order a 0.1 bar lower spring (or combo of springs) than you really need if you have B&B or GHL headers, also if you have a K27HF turbo. Seems if you have say a blue 0.5bar spring (on Tial website) you will maintain 0.6bar boost pressure.

Whatever your target, the spring (or combo of springs added together) should be 0.1bar lower than your target boost pressure.

Trust me THEY HIT! I installed a fully finned one last week on a stock Euro exhaust and it interfered with the header by about 1/4". It took me and my trusty side grinder an hour to get it in place.
