Default How much clearance needed for O2 sensor?

I'm about to weld on the O2 sensor ring. I'm going to have the sensor in the top of the exhaust about 5" from the turbo. I need to make sure I have enough room to get the sensor in. It looks like I have about 2-1/2" if I locate it straight up.

Here's a (lousy) pic of mine, but it's wrapped in some Aeroquip heat wrap. It's probably about 5''-6'' away from the turbo.

It sounds like you are going to weld it on before you install the motor? I would wait until it's installed if you can, just to make sure.

I've got the engine in and the bumper on, I just don't have the sensor. I checked the sensor on my R1100S and it's sticks up about 3-1/2". If that's the norm, I'm going to have to angle it back to clear the bodywork and the engine. I was planning to put a steel bumper under the fiberglass C2 facade bumper, but this might prevent that. I'm planning to use the Innovate wide band system.

That's what's hiding under the heat wrap. I just wanted to protect all of it from the heat and went ahead and did the same for the unit in the engine bay.

3 1/2 sounds about right. I wanted to make sure I didn't have a kinked wire or one running at a funny angle.

OK, I'm angling it back. Hopefully I'll still have room for a bumper. If not, I'll just have to make sure nobody gets near my bumper. That shouldn't be a problem with 500+ rwhp.

David, I agree you should angle it back about 20-25 deg to get room for the sensor. I used the Innovate wide band system on my standard muffler/standard bumper in the same position as you and I had to angle it back just a bit to get a good fit.

I have mounted straight up. Most of the time it is on a aftermarket bumper. You can reach it especially with the stinger on there. There is clearance up top. Depending on the setup you may simply need to remove the bumper.
