Whats the difference between a 930 and 965.

The weight difference is more like 150-200lbs. PCA club race weights are 2855 for the 930 vs. 3000 for the 91-92s. My car is 2920 without the spare and 50lbs of ballast I run. The lag is also less in the 91-92s (different turbo).
a 91-92 won't "destroy" a 4spd 930, it would be pretty close (but we are splitting hairs a little; like 4.8 0 to 60 vs. 5.2?). The coilovers are definitely nice, but on a smooth track don't matter unless you've got a LOT of power. They do make the ride/handling compromise a little easier but the torsions are very adjustable (it's an amazing suspension in its simplicity/effectiveness).

It's an argument of degrees. Realistically most everyone mods these cars and they have *basically* the same engine/fuel management/etc. The 930 is a little lighter and feels it, the 964 is a little more comfortable and has creature comforts and is less visceral, but it isn't a Lexus by any means. If you love the classic turbo look and feel and character, you get more of that in the 930. If you want a little more comfort and a really fast car that has ABS and power steering, you get that in a 964T.
I thought long and hard about a 3.6L turbo and a 993TT, but I decided I loved the classic 930 and my girls wanted a convertible (and we live in florida).

The knock on them as track cars has been mentioned: because they are comparatively heavy AND fast, they wear through tires and brakes at an alarming rate. The price of speed.

I agree with the posts....
I've had both and love(d) both for different reasons.
My 89 was definitely more raw, felt lighter, and also felt quicker when on full boost.
My 91 is more refined (smoother) and handles better. Definitely more low end torque (though my 91 has headers where my 89 did not), so it's easier to drive around town. It "feels" like a more modern car with the power steering, ABS, etc.
Looks are a personal taste, but I think now that I have the 91, I like the looks of that better. Still has bulging curves, but a executed a little more cleanly than on the 930.
Both are great cars, just different. I honestly don't know which one I like better....
