Question boost gauge

I have an 89 930 with a 1 bar spring fitted recently. The original gauge has never worked well since i had the car, and still wont go much over .5 bar.
Can anyone recommend the Andial or any other make and what sort of price if possible / supplier. Thanks , and happy new year of 930 fun!

John, I have imported lots of parts from Stephen of Imagine Auto Inc in the USA.

I know he can fix you up with one to replace the clock. Approx £170.00 with import tax vat etc.

Are you sure that the car is producing the right amount of boost ? Mine wasn't. I removed the pressure tube to my wastegate as I couldn't get more than 0.6 bar of boost after I fitted an electronic boost controller. My car physically could not produce more than 0.7 bar. I am fitting a new turbo etc etc to bring it up to 1 bar.

Use my link and push search at the top, enter "boost gauge"

Default boost

Hi Nathen, the boost was checked by Parr motorsport a couple of years ago who said it was the gauge at fault, i am planning to replace the gauge and then if im still not getting a better reading i think a session on a dyno tester will be in order.
cheers.

I use my electronic boost control as a boost gauge. I have also in the past plumbed in a mechanical gauge and held it in my hand to check that my stock gauge in the rev counter is accurate, it is.

Great looking car you have there. Is it a G50/50 ?

John,
I got mine from North Hollywood Speedometer. They let you choose the color and type of scale ie; 1 - 1.5 bar or 1 - 2 bar with a red line at any point you want. I chose the 1-2.0 dial in white with red from 1.2 on. It was $169 plus a hose and fitting kit for $69. It is an exact replacement for the clock and uses the same instrument light. The hose goes through the firewall to the brake booster and you simply replace the black plastic fitting with the one in the kit. I have beed very pleased with mine.

Thanks guys. About the boost controller Nathen , do you use the HKS one and where have you mounted it as i was wondering if it is easy to read if its all you use? Was this the the price you mentioned or was that for a mechanical gauge.Interesting , i will have to find out more about boost controllers. Im thinking of getting a hayward and scott exhaust system at some point , do you think thats the best in the uk? Oh and yes my car has the G50/50.

My car is far from standard so what I have done may not suit your car. Your car looks very original. I will take some pics of my setup.
The price I gave to you was for the mech. gauge where the clock goes like rudy's including importing it.
People say the H&S is good but I wanted to get mine from someone who knows what they are doing, Stephen certainly does, he recommends GHL or B&B. I went for GHL. Lots of people in the USA are very pleased with the parts he sells, he also has a dyno so he knows what works and what doesn't.
I don't know of anyone who has dynoed H&S for sure. I have seen pics of H&S and I was not impressed, I know that I am very hard to please... Maybe you could compare the price of getting some GHL's from Stephen to getting some H&S.

People say the G50/50 is stronger than the G50 from the 965/C2T which is what I have.

EDIT: seems I have a G50/01 not a G50/52

Thanks Nathen, I have compared prices and found that GHL would be cheaper if i didnt get too much import duties. The H&S is£2500 for a full system fitted.I would have to find someone suitable to fit a GHL as i know it can be a pain of a job if studs break ect.I live in Newcastle and dont have any 930 specialists i know of.Im thinking of taking the car south to G-Force or Bob Watson for its next main service, just buying a boost gauge for now,
and then getting a proper assessment of how things are working at the next service. Thanks for pointing out the search facility - im trying to educate myself now! PS do you have the GHL silencer as well .I heard fabspeed is good.

Haven't had chance to take pics sorry. I hate it that my car isn't in my nice warm house
OK maybe what I mean is my garage is not attatched to the house and is at the bottom of the garden.

I have no idea what my silencer is, it has no marks or stampings. It is SS though. It also sounds great, deep at idle but doesn't rattle the neighbours windows like my standard 3.2 carrera does.

My Rear Silencer

It seems Fabspeed are good, did you check out their website www.fabspeed.com

Here is where I fitted my electronic boost controller so I can see the boost pressure without taking my eyes off the road too much.

And you rotated the tach too! Very racey Nathan, I like it a lot. What steering wheel is that? I like the Carbon fiber look on it also. Too bad we can't rig up some kind of HUD to project data on the windscreen so its really at eye-level. That's a very attractive 930 combo with the blue and black.

I didn't buy the wheel, it was already on the car. I think it is a Momo.

Hey I rotated the speedo too, although I can see it needs a little more twisting.

I like the rev counter so I can see the needle between 4 & 6. It should NEVER be anywhere else on the dial IMO.

I thought the speedo was rotated , but I wasn't real sharp on MPH --> Km/H conversions when I was looking so I thought it could've been stock. I've been trying to justify the $395 cost of the 930S wheel to replace my stock unit. I'll check the Momo page to see if I can find one like it. Very nice.

I run mine to redline all the time while racing (6600rpms).

I think because my engine was stock there was no need to rev the nuts off it. Maybe I still won't as I will still have the stock camshafts.
The G50 helps too, to keep the revs there. Nice and easy smooth changes compared to the 915 in my 3.2 carrera. I "had to have" a 5 speed turbo.
