Default 6-speed conversion for 930?

In another recent thread, somone wrote that you can swap in a 5/6 spd for the stock 4 spd. I am familiar with the various 5spd options, but has someone actually put a 6 spd in a 930? Any links or info would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Maxx

I'm thinking ditch the TB's, reinforce tub, tin snipping, crossmember fab'n, peddle swapping, shifter swapping and in the end.....will you have ideal gear ratios for a high horsepower much lighter car that just got a bit heavier?

I'm not saying don't try, just may not be worth the effort.

I am not sure about the older 930s, but you can certainly do this in the '91-'92 & 94s using the GT2 style box. I think Rick Deman had done this in his old GT1R car.

I have seen pics on the net of a 6 speed in a 911 or 930.

Lots of the car was cut away to make room for it where the torsion bars are.

Miles's 965 has the 993 6 speed and 4WD.

Default 6-speed conversion for 930?

Hi Guys,
I've converted my 86 930 4speed to 993-6 speed trans. It is a very big job, If I have another 930, I would never do it again, it's just too much time, money & work !
Below are some work needed for the conversion:
Coil-over suspensions (I have a 993 complete suspension which is another very very big job)
Machine the clutch compartment if you are using the G50 clutch.
Change the shifter & clutch pedal.
Modified trans mounting.
There are also some mod to do on the starter ring-gear & fitting.
Attached are some pics for your reference.
fyi, the different in weight of the 993 & G50 trans is 0.5kg (993-63.5kg, G50-63kg)

Great pics of you conversion.

Do you know how much your car weighs ? Or how much the 993 suspension weighs compared to the 930 suspension ?
Did you feel the 993 rear suspension made a big difference to the handling ?

Would you do the suspension again in a 930 ? A 930 is much cheaper to buy than a 993.

TIA

Default 6-speed conversion for 930?

I forgot the weight of my car, it should be about 1300 kg, but I am very certain that the 993 suspension is much lighter than the 930.
There is a very big different in handling, it as good as driving a 993.

I drive my car everyday & the one that I enjoyed most in the conversion is the Woodward power steering, it makes the car feel so light & parking is just so easy !

I don't think I would do the same conversion again, with the amount of money, time & work, I could have bought a 993 & enjoy all the newer technology like ABS, power steering, better interior, driving comfort..... etc

If I post the complete pics of what I've done to my car, you'll say I'm mad. It's just too much money spend:
993 6-speed transmission
Bilstein coil-over front suspension with elephant racing bushing
Complete 993 rear suspension system
Complete 993 interior with OEM Silverknit carpets.
993 big red brakes
Woodward power steering
Kokeln IC
K29 compact turbo
GHL Headers
Borla Muffler
Haltech EFI with 3.2 intake manifold
Front 993 turbo bumper
Rear C2 turbo bumper with GT2 wing

A 6 speed looks like a big job, are there aftermarket 5 speeds available that drop in?

RUF made a 5 spd out of the 4spd using a new nose cone. I'm not sure if they still sell the parts for it.

Nothing really "drops in", but you can buy a short bellhousing G50 five speed that fits without cutting the torsion tubes...
