Default Ruf CTR specs.

Does anyone have info on things like the cams, rods and ignition map used on this car.

Having had the opportunity to race against one, i'm still struggling to understand why they are so god damn fast... (I know the weight is about 1250kg)...

0-100 in 6.7 sec is bloody genious.

On specs, the Ruf CTR did the 964 intake manifold EFI(Ruf motronic) conversion with 2 intercoolers by the side like the new 996tt and was a twin turbo. The use of lighter materials such as aluminium for doors and bonnet knocks a full 200 kg off the Carrera´s body weight. In 1987 the CTR faced the sports car establishment at the Volkswagen test track, Ehra-Lessien. The Formula One World Champion Phil Hill and the Le Mans winner Paul Frère set up a top speed of 339.9 km/h, thus making the RUF CTR the fastest production automobile. One year later Bernd Ostmann reached 342 kph at the Nardo track in Italy.

Miles Per Gallon: 10/21 mpg
Curb Weight: 3040 lbs
Layout: Rear-Engine/RWD
Transmission: 5-Speed Manual
Engine
Type: Twin-Turbo Flat-6
Displacement: 3349 cc
Horsepower: 469 bhp @ 5950 rpm
Torque: 408 lb-ft @ 5100 rpm
Redline: 6800 rpm
Performance
0-60 mph: 4.0 sec
0-100 mph: 7.3 sec
Quarter Mile: 11.7 sec @ 133.5 mph
Skidpad: .90g
Top Speed: 211 mph
Braking, 60-0 mph: --- ft
Slalom Speed: --.- mph

However Ruf underclamis their power output. At 1.1 bar, it was actually seing 521bhp.

I've heard many 'stories' about the actual weight, i'm not sure it's as light as most people believe. That statement was based on talking to the owner of the car I raced. Would love to know from someone who had actually put one on the scales.

Do we know what Cams, ignition map, comp. ration, boost etc??????

ER..... that would be me. I owned one, Red, may be the car you raced, sold it through Pullicino about 1999, non VIN but full spec inc Kevlar bonnet, wings and doors and we weighed it at 1226kg with about half a tank. As has been mentioned at 1.1 bar via the adjustable boost there was around 520hp available and the narrow shell is very slippy, AND the gears are very long, hence the acceleration numbers.

Road&Track just did a comparison with 16 cars in a one mile shoot out. Yellow Bird came in 4th at 185 at the end of one mile and still pulling strong (.09 g). Not bad for a 18 year old car with 100,000 KM on the odometer. HP 469 Weigh 2580 lb Pounds per HP 5.5

TEUTONIC,
Is that you Alvin from Singapore? If it is, I heard you put in a 8.5 compression 3.2 litres on a 3litre turbo. What management did you use to run that high of a compression? Just curious thats all.

James,
The yellowbird uses the same P&C kit in the Ruf BTR 3.4 which is what I have.
98mm, 7.5 compression short skirt pistons made by Mahle.

Great, thanks for the info. Now just need some info on the ignition map and cams. The more I read about this car the more respect I have for RUF, when you consider the only way, at the time, was to install a 935 engine if you wanted that sort of BHP...

The car was certainly ahead of its time, I believe a lot of the engine development was done by R Schmirler who worked for Ruf at the time and left just before the completion of the CTR to form RS Tuning, he carried on building these type of pressure sensing motors, up to 700hp.
The CTR is actually a pretty horrible drive by today's standards, very cammy with a fluctating idle from 1300 to 2000rpm and constant stink of overfuelling. Did about 13mpg. I don't believe the R&T weight 0f 1170kg. Can't see where 50kg could be lost from the car I had

James,
Not to sure which cams they used on the CTR but on the BTR, they used the group B cams.

Can you still buy a set of CTR cams from RUF? if not I would love to know the specs, those things have amazing torque curves. also does anyone know the gear ratios they used?

Should be available through a Ruf dealer. I just bought a set of BTR cams for one of my friends.
