Can you use a 993 EFI for a conversion?
Guys,
I would like to know if I bought a 993Engine complete with ECU- can I use this to convert my CIS to EFI at all.... what parts if any can be used and what else would you need...I assume the ECU is not much good as its for a NA but what about the mechanical parts- they different on a 993TT?

The engine pictured above is from a '95 993 which has the 964 style manifold rather than the 993 varioram manifold. The ECU is also different in that it is OBD 1 rather than OBD 2 from '96 on. The issue becomes one where the tables in the ECU are built to handle the mass of from the MAF up through about 7000rpm under N/A conditions. Once you begin to add boost, you run over the edge of the table for the mass of the air. Todd Knighton from Protomotive has been able to rescale these maps to work with turbocharged conditions. I know he uses a 964 ECU, but I also believe that he has the capability to write to the 95 993 ECU as well. You might call him.
Using a 3.6l engine as the basis of a turbo engine works great, however, you would want to use the 964 version which has a much better crank and rods as well as forged pistons which you can cut down rather than the cast pistons of the 993.

ok thanks Geoffrey.... i was thinking of being able to use the efi parts and put them on my 3.6 964T engine... however I think it requires great research into it all and something not may people have done.. so i will leave it for now and might look into EFI when im board of my current setup. thanks again for the info.
