Default 930 Engine Removal Question

Hi all:

I am removing my engine and was wondering how to disconnect the speed sensor wire (I think) from the transmission (see photo). There is a little screw holding one wire to the tranny but the main wire comes into the large round "plug" (circled in red). It looks fragile and before I just start pulling away at it I thought that I'd ask for some advise as to the proper way to disconnect this plug from the transmission.

Thanks in advance!

Tom

Pull it out from the tunnel. Remove the access plate in the car and disconnect the spade connectors there. No need to remove the sensor from the tranny. The wires will pull through the tunnel.

Slow down there PHD... You might have lost him... Inside your car between the rear seats under the tunnel carpet is a access plate.. Remove the screws and you will see the shift coupler and clear connector.. As Stephen said pull the wires out...

Folks many of us have done this in our sleep. Sometimes we might lose you in our translation. Please ask us to be more specific...

Sorry. Thanks Kev. My mind is else where on another issue at the moment. I should have been more specific.

While you are in there.... Remove the hex head screw attaching the shift coupler to the trans shifter shaft. By doing it this way, you will not have to realign the shift coupler back on the splines. You can also remove the rubber bellows off the input shaft.

Default You Guys are the best!

Thanks again for all of your insights. SoFast, as the rest of the guys are saying it is really quite easily. I am proceeding slowly and having to make some items to stabilize the car as I go but I am taking good photos and will post all of them for your benefit when I am done.

Best regards!

Default I can remove that 911 engine in 3 notes...

Hi Brian:

2 hours flat? You know, I think that next time I will be able to do it in that time although secretly I hope that there is not a next time too soon since every engine removal seems to lighten my wallet quite a bit.

I posted these photos on another thread but I think that with this tool it will go even faster this time and in the future when I am trying to beat your 2 hour time (and certainly make for a safer balancing situation). It can be purchased from a guy on E-bay and he makes a version for both Sump Plate and later engine styles that don't have the sump plate (like mine). I'll give a report on how well it works once I get to use it later this week.

Best regards!

LOL. That sure looks a lot better than my plywood and carpet setup.

Let us know how it work out.

BTW. Do you have a link to that?

When I removed my engine last time in early April, I did it in 2 hrs 5 mins according to my cell phone clock. The first time I did it it took me 4 hours, but now I've have it down to a routine.

Kinda sad when you think about it...

Default The link....

Hi Guys:

Attached is the link for Paul's website listing on ebay. It looks like a nicely desiigned unit with the ability to tilt the motor to balance out the weight.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

or you can just type in the auction number "4547449445".

I'll fill you in later on how it worked.

By the way what color red is that? It's really sharp... and that engine rebuild, wow, it's beautiful. In general round numbers what did it cost you to do it with all the parts? I assume that you did all of the work. What kind of power does it make?

C-ya guys.

Dodge Viper Red
Round numbers - hmmm... Not sure I should divulge that - my wife might get on here and read it...

431 at the rear wheels, 407 ft/lbs of torque

I don't see the one that you have for later model cars w/o the sump plate. Is there another link or did you just email him about it?

Brian, what are you using....
