I've negotiated a very, very good deal on 3.6 P&C + Heads... all fresh parts...
Heads even have ceramic coating and heat dispersent coating...

Thats Ok, now all you need is a 964 core engine. You should be able to find one as a disassembled salvage engine for $3500. Sell your 930 engine and you are all set.

Personally, I don't like the 3.8l P&C combination on a turbo. It's best left for the N/A environment.

Why do you not like the 3.8? Isit because the cylinder walls or too thin?

Too thin for heat and sealing surface. They also tend to leak...

For a 3.8 , you have to go Mahle, none other, you pay the price though..

You can buy 102 and 103mm from LN Engineering, and CMW offers 3.8 and larger kits as well...so there ARE other options. However, my preference has always been Mahle.

I have heard from a couple (very) knowledgeable sources that CMW does not fit the bill and will leak. These sources are both from Europe and the US who have tested them extensively. The 4.0 Ltrs are even worse. Maybe you remember I was going that (4.0 Ltr) route initially but was strongly discouraged. One of the gurus who discouraged me is one of your suppliers and is among the best in the industry.

I totally agree with you.
We are converting a 3L6 engine from NA to twin turbo, just replacing exhaust valves and pistons, keeping the 964 intake with a Motec M880 and a paire of 996 intercoolers. The big work is on the exhaust side.

The turbocharging specialist I work with does it this way. He makes reliable 500+ hp engines with very low lag.

A racing car we rebuilt (the blue and yellow speedster in my projects list) used a 4 liter kit. The engine failed very quickly while the 3.8L RSR engine was very reliable.

However 4L is a non-sens for me. If you need more power, make the car lighter and give it better handling. And if it is still not powerfull enough, add a pair of turbos !

I think the only and best way to do the exhaust setup is exiting in the middle of your rear bumper, straight from the turbos, otherwise you will need to go with a single middle muffler. I guess the reason for no lag is the fact that compression is higher than turbo engines and turbos are small size K16s or Garretts BB, besides some good ECU tuning.

The 964 N/A engine makes one of the best and most inexpensive conversions to turbo. You take the stock forged pistons and cut them down to 8.2:1 compression, rebuild the engine the way you normally would, slightly clean up the ports, replace the heavy stock Porsche valves with lighter aftermarket ones, add MoTeC, an intercooler, and a pair of turbos.
