Default Flames

Hello all, I'm not a 930 owner yet, but I do drive a 964 and I am thinking of adding a 930 to the stable. I know many of you get nice big flames out or your exhausts and I was wondering if you could post some pics of them. In addition I was also wondering for those who push about 450hp how much it cost you. From what I read it seems pretty simple to achieve with proper bolt ons to prevent detonation with increased boost.

The prices vary from one tuner to the other.

These are the mods I would perform below to acchieve 450bhp.

1 bar boost spring
Kokeln long neck intercooler
K27HF turbo
B&B or GHL exhaust and headers
Drill 7-8 1 inch holes at bottom of airbox and replace with K&N air filter
SC or 964 cams
Additional oil cooler
Andial fuel enrichment or just a fuel head mod
Port and polish cylinder heads to between 36-38mm, you need aluminium injector blocks
KEP stage 1 clutch kit
Suspension-(Bilstein, camber plates, thicker torsion bars, sway bars, sturt bar)
Brakes-(993tt brakes with steel braided lines)
Replace all the old fuel lines, seals, ignition cables, coil and whatever needs to be replaced, have the car maintained, serviced regularly and I swear this will be one hell of a car that will be ahead of most ferraris or even newer Porsches on the road and not forgetting,, YOU WILL LOVE IT!!

With the machinery I keep it's tough not to be addicted to all sorts of boards, sometimes I wonder how I get any work done. I am using my volvo as a test bed before a 930 because 1.it was cheap 2. It's a sleeper 3. because it runs CIS as well, and comes with a big'ole intercooler. I basically have done all the standard stuff, K&N, SDS A/F meter, big water cooled turbo, big exhaust, boost controler, Blow off valve, running 18lbs of boost and rusty speed holes for weight reduction. I figure it's running about 280hp or so, but I haven't dyno'd it yet. I've surprised more than few unsuspecting kids in rice rockets with the rusty battle wagon. It ain't pretty. Cost including car $3k.

Andrew,
Sameer lists all the right options (although you don't really have to do the brakes and suspension). The stock brakes are nothing short of awesome. If a 1000hp 917 could use them at 250mph, you're probably ok with 450... (my opinion, other's disagree).

One thing 930s are NOT is cheap. I've put my best guess at cost below. You are going to be over $10k and probably over $15k by the time you finish this stuff.

1 bar boost spring - $100 NO BIG DEAL
Kokeln long neck intercooler - $1800
K27HF turbo - $2500
B&B or GHL exhaust and headers - $3000
Drill 7-8 1 inch holes at bottom of airbox and replace with K&N air filter
SC or 964 cams - $1000 PLUS A TOP END REBUILD WHILE YOU'RE IN THERE ITS DUMB NOT TO = $3000 TO $5000
Additional oil cooler - $1000
Andial fuel enrichment or just a fuel head mod - NOT SURE $1000??
Port and polish cylinder heads to between 36-38mm, you need aluminium injector blocks $1,000
KEP stage 1 clutch kit $1,000
Suspension-(Bilstein, camber plates, thicker torsion bars, sway bars, sturt bar)
Brakes-(993tt brakes with steel braided lines)

I just quickly got to $15k on the engine without adaquately accounting for labor.

In short, buy a car that has already had all this done because the previous owner will get 10c on the dollar for all the aftermarket stuff. Even if you end up having to rebuild the engine, you'll be back to square one.

Andrew,
I have done a lot of the mods recommended by my fellow members but if you look around you can do it a lot cheaper. I got my K27 HF from Stephen for $850 and a used B&B IC for $600 on ebay. I bought a new set of ignition wires for $99 and a new wastegate for $275. I already had a stainless dual outlet muff. and headers. I installed a two position boost for $175 which allows .8 and one bar at the flip of a switch. This way you keep your standard spring and for $75 more you get one bar boost.
I agree with Derrick about the brakes. If they are new rotors and pads, they are awsome. I have four wheel coilovers and it is a great upgrade. Height and stiffness can be adjusted at any time.
Keep in mind that most of these things can be done one at a time except the engine mods, so you don't have to come with all of the money at once.

Good luck,

Rudy

Great videos Brian, love the Zork tube. I used to be able to get flames out of one of my BMW's when I hit the after market rev limiter due to the soft ignition cut. The flash in the rear view mirror at night is kinda addictive, or maybe I'm a bit childish.

It seems the Kokeln intercoolers are the last word amongst most people due to the numbers they post on their site, but how do they compare to protomotive intercoolers that span the rear deck, or spearco's which have a great reputation.

Derek: One thing I've learned is cars are never going to be easy on the wallet, and things can quickly get out of hand. I've set 450hp as a sort of goal, like the first phase. I assumed the cost for that would be about $7-8k staying on the outside of the motor.

Derick:

Which car are you referring to? The new one at the bottom of the page? If so, those are Simmons wheels. I have 2 sets of them, and I will probably sell 1 or both of them this summer so that I can get some 18s.

I may do that. How much are they worth? What size?
