Kokeln turbocharger
#18
Well, come to find out this turbo isn't what I thought it was going to be. It's basically a 7200 but with a better turbine. The good thing is you can upgrade it for more power. Will know more later,

Heads up this turbo from Kokeln is 99% the same performance as a K27-7200 yet it costs more and you have to change the oil feed line. Therefore it's not worth getting IMO unless you want a bolt on and are willing to spend the extra time and money to upgrade the compressor wheel and or go BB in the center section. Well, that is where I'm at not by choice but am looking to do this if possible or I will be returning it.

And that is new news? You just didn't listen when everyone you asked told you the same thing when you were considering changing from your K27HF. The K27HF is simply a much better turbo.

You didn't read the posts very well Geoffrey, that turbo I got just came out 2 months ago but I was decieved. So who did I ask??? One thing is for sure, I will know what I have instead being kept in the dark. It seems people think they can just run you over but when you figure out what is going on then they play a different tune. That is what happened in this case and realize what people will try and say. So upgrade it I am and will get what I want. After I'm done is what Kokeln should have been selling instead of a cheesy TO4E-50 trim compressor, what a joke. It just goes to show what people will try to get away with in this business. I'm willing to back up everything I know about what turbo I really got opposed to what turbo I was suppose to get.

I did read your posts and your PMs which asked about the turbos and A/R ratios. I told the Kokeln is just a Garrett, and a T04E-50 is a small turbo for this application. The T04E-60 which is really a 58mm compressor wheel is closer to the HF which has a 60mm compressor wheel and a slightly larger turbine than the T04E. The K27HF is a much better turbo than a T04E-60.

My posts were only to collect data and I made the choice on my own. Who said anything about a TO4E-60 trim or that the turbine is matched for a TO4E??? The turbine is a T3 Stage V with there custom A/R of .71 for street (club is .77) which makes it a hybrid. I really like the turbine and that is why I'm upgrading it and will stay bolt on). I agree, the hi-flow is much better than a TO4E-60.

I bought my Kokeln about 6-8 months ago. I didn't know they changed them recently. How can I tell what compressor wheel I have? I hope i didn't make a mistake buying this thing, the stats they claim made it seem like a good deal. Unfortunetly, I did not know about this forum at the time of purchase!

Why not discuss it out in the open, so everyone can learn?
It seems to me like people make choices about aftermarket products based upon many factors, vendor claims being one of them. Kokeln is a company that makes good products, but I find their product descriptions to be a little over the top. Their intercooler is a prime example, no doubt it is a nice piece, but the claim that it's the best "bar none" simply sounds silly to me. Perhaps under a precise set of circumstances.
Brent, it would be helpful to everyone on this board to know what your objectives are regarding turbo selection and why you feel a particular product will meet those parameters, what your engine configuration is, and the pitfalls that inevitably present themselves under any situation where a person is straying from factory parts.

I just wanted to point out what I learned so people are aware. I guess what my objects are was an off topic so I didn't want to waste the bandwidth. It's one thing to improve on the factory design for the same thing than going to something totally different.

I just got back from the dyno testing out this new turbo. I gained like 10tq and 5hp till 5k then after 5700 rpms and 300 rpms of powerband. Full boost 100 rpms sooner and 200 rpms later full power. Really not much different than the hi-flow but it goes to show there are other turbos that can do it. Of course this one costs more since you can't get it like this off the shelf. So until Kokeln does this turbo it won't be worth it vs. the hi-flow.
