Default Smog removal on a 1988 930

How easy is it to remove all the smog equipment on a 1988 930 turbo?

I was replacing my plug wires last week and saw this maze of tubes and such that seem uneccessary. I have heard that you can plug the air nozzle holes going into the cylinders with 914 caliper plugs.

Is there any hp to be gained?

I can see that the smog pump belt is disconnected, but want to know if this injection system is the first to go for many.

took about two hours. the pump and hose hardware comes of easy. I had to remove the drivers side exhaust to remove the mteal supply tubes in one piece( never know if you sell your car the new owner might want the smog equipment or you can sell it). If you don't want to save it then the job becomes real easy as you just cut it out with a saw.The holes are plugged with 10mm plugs that are available at any good metric supply store. just remember to plug the vacuum line at the throttle body

What type of performance gains would you see by removing the air injection system?

.0000001 to .0000002 HP gain! There are three things you gain: (1) a less cluttered engine bay and bottom side of the engine; (2) a miniscule gain by having eliminated the effort required to turn the air pump; and (3) a 10 to 15 weight reduction loss.

You could take out the catalyst or just wait on the turbo to eventually blow it's guts out.
